Which format to choose for a cheap Camcorder?

Hi,

The in-laws want a camcorder as we have a new baby.

The are technologically challenged and have a low budget of £200 at the very maximum.

I really have no idea on Camcorders and noticed at the cheaper end of the market there are a range of formats. Which is considered best?

It also needs to be easy? So any suggests on a good, cheap easy camera? Is this possible?!

They won't care about the video going onto a computer (read that as I have enough trouble supporting their digital camera) so digital is not necessary and probably above budget anyway.

Thanks for any light anyone can shed...

Cheers
Marc

If you don't care about getting one of the dv camcorders on the market then there are plenty of good cheap camcorders for you to choose from. On a low budget, your best bet would be to buy either one of Panasonic's VHS-C camcorders, or one of Sony's Hi-8
or Video-8 camcorders. Of course there are numerous other brands that sell these formats, and any one of these will do. I only suggested Panasonic and Sony because they are two of the front runners in the world of camcorders.
If quality of picture is not a priority on your list, then one of these camcorders will do fine, providing they meet your budget limitations.
Good luck on your choice.
