AVCHD and HF100

Hi

I have been using Powerdirector 8 Ultra to edit (m2ts files from the HF100)and create a disc in the AVCHD format. However PD8s re-rendering process seems to significantly degrade the video quality from the original superb source.

Is anyone aware of better video editing software that is able to cope with the m2ts files a bit better when creating a AVCHD project.

Cheers

Re: AVCHD and HF100

There is a good free utility that offers AVCHD authoring. It is called multiAVCHD. It will not recode your video so you will have same quality as you had. I use Edius 5 for videoediting. But it may be a bit pricey for normal use.

BTW If I do not want to do editing I just burn BDMV folder from my camcorder to BD-R 25GB and my Panasonic BD35 standalone BD player plays it just fine.

Hope it helps

Re: AVCHD and HF100

Thanks - however I want to edit, add effects, create menus etc. all while retaining the AVCHD quality, which obviously means the free utility will be of no use.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: AVCHD and HF100

I found direct editing of AVCHD cumbersome. You are much better of transcoding it to some form of lossless HDV and then editing. If I had to use other program than Edius I would use Sony Vegas. Many people like Pinnacle but it is not my cup of tea…
Do not underestimate free software some of them are actually much better than one you will pay for! Image burn VS Nero is a good example.

multiAVCHD as actually pretty good authoring program. It allows creating menus and simple editing.

You’ll get lot more authoring from Scenarist BD if you can afford it
