travel camcorder

hi there i am about to embark on a journey traveling overland from north america to argentina and am looking for a camcorder to film the trip. but i am clueless about digital camcorders!! i wont have a lap top with me, and i only have around £300 more or less. any ideas on what would be the best option and format for me,

I'd go for a camera with SD card storage in stead of tapes or harddisks. The less moving parts, the better. That's my opinion. And you can get yourself a few cards and even buy additional once at your destination when you run out of storage. When a hard disk is full, it's full.

I managed to get a Sony HDR-TG3E from my local Comet for £270 (TG3E has been superseded).

It makes a great travel camcorder fitting easily into most pockets.
