vhs to pc to dvd

Hi, need some advice plz.I've got a load of vhs recorded tapes that I want to store on my pc and also convert to dvd.
my vhs recorder is mitshubishi HS-851V(B)
It is a single tape with the following rear connectors
rf in
rf out
scart euro av2 in
scart euro av1 in/out
audio out R(red)/L(yellow)
Is it likely I can use this to copy vhs to pc and also to dvd?
Is the equipment up to the task?
Do I need to aquire other connectors and software to do this?
pc has xpsp3 and I can use other software such as audacity
thanks

The output from the VCR is analogue and a PC is digital. Therefore you will require a method of converting the analogue signal to digital. Most PC's will not have this type of connection so you will probably need to buy something such as This to get the video onto the PC. The supplied software should be able to do all the editing and create a DVD with menu etc.
But as already suggested the easiest and possibly better quality method would be to use a standalone DVD recorder. If you have/get one with a HDD then you can also do soime basic editing before burning to disc.

Re: vhs to pc to dvd

One other thing that might be important, specially if the tapes are special, and contain irreplaceable footage (family stuff, things like that).

If the tapes have not been played for a while, some people recommend winding and rewinding them before you play them the first time. Or even better, record them the first time you play them.

I have friend who found some old VHS tapes which had been lying in a drawer for a while. They contained some footage of his daughter as a baby.
He played them on his rather old machine, and they played fine.
Trouble is, the player wrecked the tape on the first playing. Stored horizontally, followed by a slightly iffy player transport, stretched one edge of the tape, and placed serrations all the way along that edge of the tape. Tape could not be played again. He was really upset!
Not saying it always happens, but if the tapes have been badly stored, and the player hasn't been used in a while...

You could always try a 'disposable' tape first, I guess, just to check the player out....

That will do to connect the scart output of a VCR to the phono inputs on the converter.
