Canon HF200 MTS files

Hello,

I am looking to buy this camcorder and I was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to upload couple of raw .mts files in the highest bit rate. I am mainly looking at indoor footage with couple of 60w bulbs as this is the lowest light I will be using the camcorder in.

Many thanks for your help.

Re: Canon HF200 MTS files

Thanks.

I have been searching for couple of weeks all the samples that are available are on youtube and vimeo and are as you know, are heavily compressed.

I will google a little more...I just wanted to watch the indoor footage on my TV to see whether it is acceptable.

I will have a look for you later, but I am sure I found a forum linking to the translated Japanes page with mts files on. It may have been the HF20, but as I understand, are these two not the same sensor anyway (just flash drive difference)? Bear with me.

Re: Canon HF200 MTS files

Just found the site. http://av.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/s...325_76262.html

It is HF20 but as you say it's the same camcorder but with internal memory.

On the forums there is someone who did a comparison of HF200 with Sanyo TH1 although the Sanyo is an inferior product the HF200 review was quite good even for low light using 24p.

I have done alot of research and looks like overall the HF200 at it's price range cannot be beaten. I just wished I purchased it at 498 including delivery and got another 50 quid off via canon cashback making it 」448 now it's gone upto 」515.

Still not a bad price considering most are being sold for 」550+

I considered the HF20/200 very seriously, but after careful research, I decided on the HG20, as the sensor is slightly larger. In real terms, daylight and bright conditions yield almost exactly the same results (HG20 vs HF20/200), but in low light, the HG20 pips it.

Swings and roundabouts. The HG20 is not as pretty and a bit larger ... and some don't like hard disks (I don't mind). Pixmania are selling the HG20 for 」508

Re: Canon HF200 MTS files

I considered the HG20 but it's slightly larger and has 12xoptical compared to HF200 15x.

I think the HF200 has face detection whereas the HG20 does not.

I suppose it's better to go and check them both in a shop before purchasing and spending nearly half a grand.

You are quite right. But what swayed me was that even 12x zoom is largely impossible to shoot steadily by hand; 15x is even trickier - imagine trying to hold a 500mm lens on an SLR to take a single snap, let alone a video! I tend to use a tripod where possible and pan etc, but anything around 10x (aprox 350mm) would have been more than adequate. If you find yourself needing to zoom in great distances, invest in a very sturdy tripod too.

Face detection is handy, but it's not without its faults too. If you've ever used face detection on a regular digital camera, you'll know its foibles.

However, all the best in going to the shops to try them: I went to John Lewis, Jessops, Sony Centre and Currys, and nowhere was stocking anything 'decent' in the price range you are looking at. They were all 」300 ish and most were still SD. I had to unearth as many samples as possible and base my decision that way - a bit of a gamble really.

Re: Canon HF200 MTS files

I have owned the HF200 for about a month now and I must say I am extremely satisfied. Being an owner of a HV20, my expectations were very high.

This little cam does not disappoint. It shoots extremely sharp and vivid videos in bright light and dare I say it is better than the HV20. It has been accused of not shooting very good video in low light but I have to say that there is not that much difference from the HV20 which is a little brighter and a little less noisy. Low light performance is not the disappointment that many reviews make it out to be. The noise is there because even if you shoot in low light the picture is extremely sharp and still looks HD.

Very portable, 95 min of battery, 15X zoom, face detection, pre record, great IQ and good price. What else do you want?

Nail on head! The low light is still very good - 0.4 lux - trumps a lot of 'better' cameras for sure. I think the HG20 is 0.2 lux.

You can't argue with that.

One thing that does bother me a little and it's not just Canon but all the manfacturers are doing this, is that they have removed the viewfinders which means after spending nearly 」500 and if something goes wrong with the LCD your stuffed!!

I have the Canon HF200 for over 3 months, the video qualiity is very good. Canon recommends to use SDHD by SanDisk, Panasonic and another manufacturer. I have been using a cheaper brand (Transcend 16GB) and having problems with the files (corrupted).
