Hey guys

So i've decided to get a nice new decent camera to make things like music videos and short films with

I'm not looking for a massive £2000 camera, it'd be nice, but it's out of price :P

Anyway, i've been doing some shopping and i've found :

Canon HF11 + DM-100 Mic for around about £570 give or take (rounded up)

or I could get the Panasonic for £750ish with apparently 6GB SD Card (probaby a pack of 3 2GB)


The Canon is from the B&H website and ships from america (NTSC version i think)

The Panasonic is from Electron-World (PAL unit) - in New Zealand (which after a bit of reserch, it IS legit)

...I looked at both carefully....

anyway, what do you guys think?

Is the extra money worth it?

I'd go for the Panasonic any day. Although the Canon is a fine camcorder, it only has a single sensor, and doesn't have the focus ring, viewfinder, or the same extent of manual exposure control. Panasonic's image stabilization is second to none.

However, assuming you're in the UK, I wouldn't be getting one from the other side of the world. Amaz*n UK sells it for about £810.

Incidentally, Panasonic does make (or at least, re-brands) 6GB and 12GB SDHC cards.

6GB cards are new to me =P

I suppose i'd best hold out and save bit longer for the Panasonic then

but as far as accessories go, can i still get lens hoods / lenses / microphones without disrupting some of it's features

(e.g. - Lens hood over focus ring?)

As for a hood and filters, I imagine it'll be fine - though you might want to download the manual from Panasonic's website just to make sure. If you use an accessory microphone, you won't get 5.1 surround, but that's the same for any camcorder.

Yeah, I understand the non 5.1 sound

Just thinking of concerts I'll end up going to and taking the camera with me.
