Looking to purchase a camcorder for semi-professional videos - some help needed

Hi guys,

I was hoping someone would be able to help me find a camcorder to buy. I’ve basically been asked to suggest a (or some) camcorder which can be used to film semi-professional videos to be hosted on online media websites (youtube.com, gametrailers.com, vimeo.com etc.) and on televisions (videos will potentially be distributed via video games console media channels).

The recordings will mostly take place within an office environment which has medium lighting (though I’m hoping to find some lighting equipment to use also) and will require good quality audio – so it needs to be able to plug in an external microphone. It also needs to support High Definition.

I don’t have exact numbers on available budget, but I’d imagine around the £1,000 mark, maybe a little more.

Let me know if you have any suitable suggestions

Many thanks!

Without too much thought I'd say semi-pro HD starts at £1700 with Sony HVR-A1. Start looking second hand or SD. Why do you NEED high-def?

Some good info in another thread Advice for novice filmmaker - which camcorder and editing software to buy?

I've been looking a little down the scale now - most notably at the Canon HV30 as that might better suit my needs and would be easier to operate / setup for things like interviews and footage shot within an office.

Thanks for the link to the novice filmmaker thread.
