Saving HD Video from Camcorder to external Hard Drive?

Hi All,

I am thinking of purchasing a sony cx150e and was wondering if I would be able to directly transfer hd video from the camcorder to an external hard drive via usb 2.0? Would it take ages to transfer? Do I need a pc to do this or can it be done without a pc (which would be ideal). Would a netbook be able to save onto an external hard drive for me? Don't want to do any more than that on a netbook.

There needs to be a PC or a laptop between the camcorder (or USB card reader) and the hard drive. Directly transferring video files is generally very quick. A netbook should be fine, so long as it has the appropriate interface.

Some of the Sanyo Xaxti camcorders can directly transfer video files from the SD card to an external hard drive without a PC. Alas, the comparatively poor Image Stabilisation lets Sanyo down.
