Hi,

Looking to get either a pocket camcorder or cheap standard camcorder to record live gigs on. HD would be good but the sound is the most important.....

Any suggestons please?

Re: Pocket camcorder for gigs?

Just purchased a Sony Handycam TG3 from Currys! this week They have a deal on just now (limited) selling for £359 might be what your looking for, have been using it for our new daughter awe!!!!

Havent tried it out on anything like live concerts "YET"! but on the sound side it has been giving us excellent 5.1 clarity straight from the outset so should handle what your throwing at it. Best of luck

If you're shooting in relatively dark environments, you'll want something with large-ish sensors: get the biggest you can afford.

Audio will be poop using any consumer camcorder, but so long as you're expectations aren't too high you might be happy enough.

My vote would be the Panasonic TZ7 although its not really cheap.
Gigs were one of the reasons i got mine and while its not really up there with my Canon HF10 as far as image quality goes im very impressed with the audio side. Ive had mine sitting on my bass amp at gigs and still it doesn't distort and out front the recordings are nice and clear.
There are some good examples on Youtube and vimeo. This camera seem very well suited for live recordings.
This shows how well the audio is picked up
