Sony TRV14E Upgrade

Hi
I am going to upgrade from my Sony TRV14E Mini Dv tape camcorder to either a Pano HDC-SD200 or HDC-TM300.
My concern is will the new ones be as good in low light as the old one? I use it indoors alot with the kids etc. Have tried to work a "CCD" comparison between new and old but cannot work it out. As you can tell I am no expert. Any advice would be greatly appreciated..
Regards
Max

Re: Sony TRV14E Upgrade

The SD200 and TM300 both use 3 1/4.1-inch CMOS sensors - about the same size as the CCD in your Sony (not sure whether yours has a single or three chips though). So they should both be on par with yours as far as shooting indoors goes. Of course, they're both high definition camcorders, so the picture should be markedly superior to anything you got out of the TRV14.

The TM300 has a few advantages over the SD200: dual memory (built-in flash memory as well as taking SDHC cards), a viewfinder, and a proper manual focus ring - these leap to mind.

I'd go for the TM300 if you can afford it.

Re: Sony TRV14E Upgrade

Hi,
Many thanks for the feed back.. I was hoping to get the better 300 one but all comes down to money in the end. How long would you reckon before the prices of these two cams might start to fall a little ??
regards
max

Not until a new model or models is / are released - which probably means the end of the year at the earliest. No guarantees, of course.
