Okay, I get it, theres lots of new people that post in here asking about buying camera's and yes, im one of those people. I've done quite a bit of research into this, and come to the following conclusions:
So. I want a High-Definition camera. I want it cheap. I dont want to pay $3000 like Kramer did. I cant afford it can i. My initial reaction was to buy a Sony, as I love the Carl Zeiss lens, and, after looking at the cheapest one I can get, I found the CX105, which actually seems to produce amazing pictures. See here:
(watch in HD)
So i thought; Great, i'll get that. But of course, its AVCHD. And that appears to be a problem, I cant directly use the format (which i gather is .MTS) in After effects. So im stuck again. Altho it would appear that the guy who made that film managed to get his into Premier Pro, which I should be getting soon.
Okay, So I thought well I can just convert the video's once i transfer them over. MTS to MOV converter. There are a few out there, and I had a go with a sample MT2 file i downloaded, and it seemed to be okay. Not amazing, but okay. I guess different convertors would do it better.
Right, so then I wasnt quite satisfied, I've been looking into the so-called trusty HV30. Theres alot of hype on this camera. And it seems fine for me, Its DV which means I can just Capture the video into Final Cut and use it completly uncompressed, which solves the conversion problem, and its HD too. BUT!
And here's where I went a bit off track; After looking up sample videos for the HV30 on youtube, I found things like this:
And the quality looks good enough for me. Its not perfect, there are bits that screw up here and there, but nice all the same. But then i see stuff like this:
So whats going on here? Even with the HQ button pressed on youtube this video quality looks rubbish. I dont understand.
I just want to be able to edit my video in after effects. I want the video to be high quality. Im not to bothered if its not CCD, I can live without it for now. I think either way Im going to be converting the video, whether it be capturing it or converting the MT2 file. Ugh, I dont know.
Please let me know your responses. I could do with some help on this one.
Quick note - I've just found out After Effects CS4 supports AVCHD - So I guess I could get the Sony and everything would be fine....Dunno. Still very confused.
believe me the hv 30 produces very good pictures ,i also own a sony 3 chip FX-7 and the canon HV30 has as much resolution and better colour imo, i have also owned a sony hv1 no contest against the hv30 and a SR 12 avchd pq no better and worse by the time the mts files are converted to be editable.crap on youtube bears no real indication of what a cam can do.
