Firewire or USB

I am purchasing a new camcorder but finding it hard to get one with firewire. I like the reviews of Sony DCR SR37E but it's USB. My old Sharp camcorder does not work but I always used firewire to download to PC as was told this was best. all the retailers I've been to (Dixons, Comet etc) tell me USB is ok but they would obviously to get a sale.
Is the USB connection better these days or anyone know of a reasonably priced camcorder with firewire - either mini DV tapes or hard drive , not SD cards.

Thanks in advance

Re: Firewire or USB

FireWire seems to be on the way out for camcorders. I've been reading about this as I've dug out my old Jvc mini dv and having FireWire cable issues. Been looking at new HD cams they seem to be all USB 2.0.

Re: Firewire or USB

It isnt so much that firewire is on the way out, it is that tape camcorders for which firewre transfer is the ideal are getting increasingly scarce
Interestingly, many laptops dont have it any more in the budget range
As such usb as a means of transfer for HDD or SD card based camcorders is the norm and does not infer any inferiority
For once the staff at the retailers are right:
they would be wrong if they told you usb was ok for a tape based camcorder though
