Editing from Sony HDR-XR105E

Oh God, I can't take it any more...

I have just bought the above camera and in my simple little way thought "Great, no more tapes. Just point, shoot and then connect to my Sony Vaio and create some lovely movies with Premiere".
Ah, no...
So I've installed all the software that came with it and after trying to stop automatic disc burning, picture analysis of every b****y photo on my computer, finally I've managed to upload a test video from the HDD to my PC. However, Premeire only seems to see it as an audio file and Windows Media can't even find it.
Can any wonderful person give me even a litle clue as to how I might easily upload images, create a storyboard, add some effects and burn a disc...just like I do with my Canon HV20?
If you can, you will earn undying gratitude and possibly save a young life....

Just in case anyone reads this in future, I've solved the problem by using Pinnacle V12 Studio Plus...perfect result.

Great .. young life saved then!
AVCHD does not have native windows support ( No codecs). Although Windows 7 ( I m running it) does play it natively
It only has Premiere support in CS4 or Elements 7
Most other recent software also support it
As you've seen tapeless does not = to hassle free. you are lucky too A lot of folk find they don't get on with Pinnacle Studio

Re: Editing from Sony HDR-XR105E

Thanks for your reply Senu. I agree with your comment on Pinnacle, I'm no great fan but it works - 90% of the time. Maybe my requirement is unique but all we want to do is shoot some family video's, upload them, add some titles and music and burn to disc so we have a nice library. I feel some of the issues surrounding camcorders and editing would be outrageous in a professional environment never mind a consumer one.
As a consumer, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect that if you by a product like a Sony Camcorder you "plug and play". The documentation that comes with the XR105E makes no mention whatsoever of editing or available software. it just tells you to install the accompanying software which then tries to take control of all the media files on your computer and keeps banging on about how clever it is at burning various types of discs.
I think you can probably tell I am a bit frustrated
Anyway, we're there now so I'm happy - for now
