Wireless Clip Mic Advice

I'm filming a professional golfer outdoors and need a decent wireless clip mic compatible with the Canon HV30 I've just bought.

Only ever used the external lavalier mics that plug straight into the camcorder so not sure how wireless / radio-based mics work.

Does a clip mic and belt pack send the audio to the camcorder as a plug in mic would? Or does it record it to the belt pack as a totally seperate track?

I need to film the golf pro from 200yards away (as he hits the ball towrds me) while he's talking on the tee. Will a radio mic work at this distance?

Any clarification and product recommendations much appreciated. My budget is flexible.

Phil.

Re: Wireless Clip Mic Advice

A radio mic will transmit the audio to a remote receiver that you would connect to a recording device.
However most radio mics will struggle to work at around 50m let alone 200m. Also most of the receivers will require a mains supply to work, but there are a few battery powered units around (well I've used them in the past).

I would suggest that at 200m between camera and the person being recorded you would be far better using a mic directly into a small DAT/minidisc etc recorder. These have the advantage that some models will record a SMPTE Time Code along with the audio that wil help sync the video and audio together when editing. I know miniDV camcorders also record SMPTE t/c but not sure if your camcorder does though.
