vista doesnt recognise canon hg20 - help

I just bought a canon Hg20 but i cant get my pc to recognise camcorder. if i set it to memory card it does recognise it but not if i set it to movie. CANON AND PIXELEA ARE NO HELP AT ALL. Is their any thing I can do or can anyone sugest another software to use - thanks

How many hard drives / partitions do you have? Sometimes if you have several it may not assign a drive letter. You will then have to do it manually. It will then show up as a removable drive.

thanks - i eventually got it to work - I downloaded a driver from Canons usa site and tried different ports so now it will recognise camera when I switch it on - I know it says Vista is compatable with camera but it was searching for drivers so that seems to have resolved that. My next problem is transferring footage to pc - Imagemixer 3 keeps freezing so I think I will need to get another software as the reports I have seen on imagemixer arent very good but will get there.
