Sony Vegas 9 Rendering speeds

Hey everyone. I was wondering if there is any way to speed up the rendering speed in Sony Vegas? for example I have just renderd a 640x480 file with the quality set to low and the clip is 1 minute long and its taking 10 minutes using AVI, Surely this should be around 1-2 minutes? I have also tried rendering to seperate HDD but it took longer. Also while I'm here is there any way to speed up the transfer speed from one HDD to another?

PC specs:
AMD Phenom X4 (Quad Core)
2GB RAM
Nvidia Geforce 9600GT 512MB
Windows XP Pro

Thanks, Joshua.
