Panasonic VDRD220 Problem
My wife moved the controls on her Camcorder before it finished buffering, and now it refuses to read the mini dvd R- disc and a message says it is a non recognizable format. The Camcorder works OK with a new disc. But we really need to rescue the damaged disc. Please help. THanks.

Re: Panasonic VDRD220 Problem
Can you play the DVD in your computer?
Don't try it in your computer if you only have a slot-loading DVD drive. You need a tray-loading drive for mini-DVDs.

Thanks Andrew, I will try it today and report. It is a tray DVD player.

Re: Panasonic VDRD220 Problem
Andrew, I tried it several times. Nothing. Error message and also No disc message. Any other suggestions would be welcome.

Re: Panasonic VDRD220 Problem
Is it possible to "finalize" the DVD in the camcorder? You may need to refer to the manual for instructions on how to do this - it's not a camcorder I'm familiar with.

Yes, it is possible to finalize the disc on the camcorder.

Re: Panasonic VDRD220 Problem
Okay - have you done that, and does it make any difference?

Re: Panasonic VDRD220 Problem
I am reluctant to finalize it in case it makes it totally unrecoverable? What do you think?

Is it playable on the camcorder.? If not then you may have lost the footage anyhow
In such a case you may have nothing to lose by finalising it as you will not be wiping data off but it may be readabe on a PC and the data recoverable
Unfortunately this is a well known problem with Dics recorders ( Settop DVD players or camcorders)
I Imagne you could similarly " ruin" a disc whilst it is being recorded to on a PC if you were to have an unexpected power cut or interruption

Re: Panasonic VDRD220 Problem
The other option would be to run some kind of data recovery software before you finalise the DVD in the camcorder, and see if that yields dividends. However, I have no experience of doing this myself, nor can I make any specific recommendations about recovery software (I have a Mac, not a PC).

Good suggestion .
Any PC software recovery title would be worth trying.

Re: Panasonic VDRD220 Problem
Many Thanks for all your excellent advice, which I have relayed to my wife. She has to take the decision so that I do not get blamed!
