ImageMixer 3 SE and Canon HG20 - Converts 24Mbps to 18Mbps ?

Don't know if anyone can help? Have Canon HG20. Have used the supplied software, ImageMixer 3 SE, to transfer Camcorder files to AVCHD. If you have recorded files on the camcorder using 24Mbps, the software will not allow you to use that size and converts it to 18Mbps. Why? What is the point in having a 24Mbps camcorder and the supplied software limits your recording to 18Mbps? Is there that much difference in quality ?

It does allow you to make a normal DVD in that bitrate format, just not AVCHD?

Any recommendations for other software for simply transferring files to DVD that will allow the full bitrate ?

You will not see any noticable resolution difference, i put all my hd material on blu ray 25 mbps although avchd discs only show 14 to 16 mbps i can see no resoluton difference, where bd wins is possibly fast moving filming, my tv is 50" 1080p.The only way you can prove it is get a blu ray burner.
