Panasonic sd20 HD writer - help

Hi All,

Newbie, geat site.

I have just managed to get the last HD SD20 camcorder from my local currys for 328. Problem is it is the display (worth the risk as cant find it cheaper else where) however it doesnt have the user guide (found on panasonic website) or HD writer disc.

Does anyone know if I can get HD writer on the web ? or if I can buy one anywhere ? will panasonic send me one ?

Alternatively anyone know if i can use something else instead of HD writer ?

I have Vegas movie studio but i cant open anything in there either.

Thanks

Re: Panasonic sd20 HD writer - help

I'm surprised it wasn't in the box. Panasonic, I believe, won't send out the discs and if you're a beginner it really is a decent bit of software to get the data off the card and create both standard def DVD's and Hi Def discs too. I would ask them to have a better look..
Failing that you should be able to copy the m2ts files from the card and open them in other software.

What version of HD Writer does the SD20 require? I have version 2.5E on CD. PM me if you wish.

Re: Panasonic sd20 HD writer - help

The SD20 requires version AE 1.0. Unfortunately, I don't think 2.5 will do (although it might be worth a try, if all else fails!). AE 1.0, and now AE1.5, are different from the previous versions, in that they allow editing of parts of clips, and not just complete clips.
The A.E 1.5 manual states that it will not work with AVCHD footage from pre 2008 cameras (i.e. SD1-5-9).
Whether the reverse is true, and modern camera footage will work with older HD Writer versions....?

There is an update on AE1.0 here: HDWriter AE1.0 for HDC L052 Update Program | Digital AV Software Download | Digital AV Software | Digital AV | Consumer Products | Support | Panasonic Global,
but unlike the update for 2.0, it appears that you require the original software to be installed...again,might be worth a try!

As sjw suggests, the best option would be for Curry's to have another look for the original disc. If not, maybe they can get a replacement from Panasonic?

Re: Panasonic sd20 HD writer - help

thanks everyone, spoke to currys this morning.
Panasonic charge £25 to send it, Curry's cant pay so I have had to pay and Curry's will refund.

Fingers crossed this will be sorted.

Thanks again everyone.

Re: Panasonic sd20 HD writer - help

I got a SD100 a month or two back. This isn't a 'pre-2008' model but it came with HD Writer 2.6. Anyone know if the AE software from the SD20 would work with it?

Re: Panasonic ae 1.0 HD writer - help

Hope someone out there can help - have just bought a Panasonic TM300 HD camcorder - tried to load the HD writer software AE 1.0) on to my PC (which I think is up to spec) although I haven't installed an HD burner yet. Just wanted to try and download some footage and play it on the PC.
Unfortunately just get a message saying that the Service Pack required has not been installed. No mention of this in the manual can anyone shed any light on what the issue might be.

If you're running XP, then you will need both Service Pack 2 and Service Pack 3 installed
