HELP! AVI files appear as folders!

Exclamation HELP! AVI files appear as folders!
I have a number of AVI files that I captured from my video camera that are each 4.7gB in size - instead of appearing as .avi files though, they're appearing as folders.
I think i read once that the FAT32 will cause this to happen, but I'm using Vista so they've only ever been on an NTFS formatted disk.
Does anybody know of a way to recover these files?
