playing back video from HDC-SD5

Hello,

this is a really basic question but I can't find it anywhere on google or here. I am uploading the video onto my PC using the panasonic supplied software and can view using the same software but it is pants. What I can't do is get winampp or windows media player to show the videos. I've downloaded and installed ffdshow.

So I've got various files (*.mpls, *.bdmv) but opening these with winamp et al does nothing. Looking around I guess I need to convert things to mp4. Can I play these files direct? If not how do I convert to mp4 or should I be doing something else?

Thanks,
Patrick

Re: playing back video from HDC-SD5

You could google, download, and try the free VLC media player. It will play the .mts video files stored in the STREAM folder (PRIVATE -> AVCHD -> BDMV -> STREAM).

I always upload the video from my SD5 using HD Writer (the supplied software).

Playback using my Quad core Q9550 computer is superb - completely smooth and with full quality.

Playback using my old P4 computer is worse than pants --about 4 frames a second - rubbish!

So a lot will depend on how good your computer is --nearer to the P4 spec - no chance! Nearer to the quad core (although I would think a core duo should cut it?) the better the quality.
AVCHD needs a lot of processing power to play at full quality.
