Hi-8 to computer

My camcorder that i had (JVC Mini-DV GR-D50ek) broke so i can't use it any more, doesn't power on or anything.

I make videos, edit them in premiere pro and then upload them to youtube.

I can get hold of a HI-8 camcorder.

Could i do this with a HI-8 camcorder? Can't see any type of connection that will fit a computer?

Thanks,

Andy

Re: Hi-8 to computer

Not easily as Hi8 cams are analogue. To get the video onto a PC you would need an analogue to digital converter. Also a Hi8 cam will be noticably lower quality than a miniDV cam - although with uploading to YouTube quality wont be an issue
You could buy another miniDV cam that will have a firewire port for connecting to a PC and will also allow you to play your old tapes. Another format (even if digital) will not be able to play miniDV tapes (with the exception of HDV).

Mark.
