free *.mod to annything conversion

Hi

I am looking for a (preferably free) program a non-technical person could use to convert .mod files to annything useable for video editing. Simply renaming the file to wmv, as suggested on various places on the net, does not seem to help.

Personally i use ffmpeg from the command line, but i need it to be useable for a non technical person. (aka something with a gui) running on XP.

anny help is of course greatly appriciated

greetz & thanks

The conversion ( or renaming) is to *.mpg . not wmv , converting anything to wmv needs you to have the ( free) WMV 9 encoder on your system. At any rate wmv is yet another compressed format
MOD are mpeg2 files
Im sure there are free software
The problem with them ( as you know from ffmpeg) is that the feature set tends to be limited and GUI simplicity may not necessarily be the top priority
Saying that most editing software available now will convert and edit
