Good value upgrade to a Canon MV700?

Hi,

A few years ago I bought my dad a Canon MV700 for Christmas, it's okay, nothing special for sure and was fairly cheap and cheerful at the time.

The other day he asked (politely! he wasn't having a dig) if there was any sort of setting I could use to improve the quality, and umm... unsurprisingly there wasn't

Is there anything I could get him that'd be a decent upgrade, but not cost loads (as it'd be a fathers day present) - I haven't really kept up with any camcorder stuff myself, but was wondering if they have progressed at a similar rate to digital cameras (where you can get a really good camera now for low prices)

Preferably something HD would be great, Mini DV would be preferable as he has a few tapes, although I guess something that'd take a memory card also (and plug into the PC or TV) would be ideal.

Thanks!

I hope your old Dad knows how lucky he is!

How much are you looking at spending?

Hah, that's the problem I think... I genuinely have no idea how much it'd cost for something that'd be a worthwhile upgrade to what he has now, no more than £200 at the very most if I'm honest... I'm thinking it'd be impossible to get anything decent for that much though?
