Telephoto lens for camcorders

Hi,

I am getting the Panasonic SD20 with 16x optical zoom. I want to enhance the zoom and wonder if a telephoto lens will help boost the range by any real significance.

Specifically, what would be the total zoom of the camcorder if I purchased a 3x telephoto lens (43mm), in conjunction with the 16x optical zoom?

Also, can i get a larger telephoto lens, larger than 3x?

Thanks for any help.

Cheers,
Jaffy

Re: Telephoto lens for camcorders

At 16x zoom even the slightest movement of the camcorder will make the video pratically unwatchable. Even a good quality tripod will still show camera shake at that high a zoom.

If you add a 3x telephoto lens to a 16x zoom camcorder you will get 3x16=48x zoom
Higher powered telephoto lenses are around. I found a 6x lens on keene.co.uk but it was not for a 43mm diameter lens.

Mark.
