| Re: buying laptop
Looking at the specs of the laptop it does seem to have all the required connections for getting the video onto it - ie firewire (ieee1394) for the HDV cam and USB for the AVCHD cam. 500Gb HDD should be plenty of space for now, but an eSATA port for connecting a fast external HDD is very good. 4Gb of RAM should help to speed rendering & file conversion along.
You might want to have a search through this forum for other threads on PC specs for editing AVCHD as it can require a very powerful CPU. The laptop does have a quad core CPU, but laptops don't always offer the best performance compared to a desktop PC. But I will leave it to your searching and others with experience of AVCHD editing to comment on this as I don't have an AVCHD cam.
Mark.
