Transfering footage on SD card to computer

My daughter has a Canon HD camcorder and is having trouble saving the HD footage to her laptop and external disk. When she tries to read the SD card via a USB port, the computer asks if she wants to format the card. Nothing happens when she says 'Cancel'

She's going on holiday nexty week and needs to save previous footage, so any help will be appreciated.

Re: Transfering footage on SD card to computer

That's strange - is she using an external or internal card reader?

Have you tried using the bundled ImageMixerSE software to import the footage?

She's using a cheap external reader.

Re: Transfering footage on SD card to computer

does the camera have a USB plug you can use and keep the card in the camcorder?
