Best place to buy HD SD card

Hi guys

Well I took the plunge and bought the SD20 from QVC for £328.00. Now all I need is a decent card for the thing.

Anybody recommend anywhere for a good 16/32GB HDSD card?

Thanks

Re: Best place to buy HD SD card

Amazon sell a class 6 16gb Transcend card for £29.99 delivered. Can't see anywhere beating that at the moment.

I've order two 8GB class 6 cards from Play.Com, £22.99 delivered. They are on back order and are due to be shipped on 6th June.

Hi,
Just looked on 7dayshop and they have 8gb class6 Transcend cards for 12.99 not as good as the Play deal but if you need then soon, like me, then it looks good.

Re: Best place to buy HD SD card

I bought one of these 8gb Micro SDHC cards from play.com (£10.49)

Play.com (UK) - Mobile - Free Delivery

It works fine with no issues at all.

Using it as a standy by card.

Steve.

Re: Best place to buy HD SD card

Again, thanks for all the replies everybody, they are much appreciated

Just one thing, and I know it is probably a really stupid question, but when you say "class 6" what does that mean? Is that the quality of the card is it?

Would I have to buy a "class 6" or if I found a "class 5 or 4" a little cheaper could I go for one of those?

Really sorry if it is a stupid question - its the first time we've purchased a HD camcorder!

Thanks

Sorry, the only reason I ask is because I have found this 16GB,

7dayshop.com - Online Store

but it is only a "class 4" so just wondering if this would be ok?

Thanks people

That is the same card I got for my SD-20 and it works fine. I think the 'class' referes to the speed at which the data reads/writes to the card & PC.

As I said this class 4 card works perfectly in my SD-20.

Re: Best place to buy HD SD card

The 'Class' of the SD card is rating which describes its data transfer rate. Class 2 is guaranteed to handle 2MB/S, Class 4 4MB/S and Class 6MB/S.

The SD20 Manual says that Class 4 is the minimum you need and I use a class 4 without issue so it should be ok. Class 6 is probably more future proof though.

Re: Best place to buy HD SD card

What has happened to the price of SDHC cards? When I bought my 16gb Transcend card (from Amazon I think) back in January they cost £17... Now £30? Are shops taking the **** because of the additional demand, or have production costs gone up 50%?

Re: Best place to buy HD SD card

It might have something to do with an inept "government" failing to pull the economy out of tail-spin, and the consequences for the "value" of the pound sterling.

Re: Best place to buy HD SD card

I was looking at this - Transcend-8GB Class 6 SDHC @ £12.59 each, free P&P, order two it comes in just over the Play.com price.

But, is Play.com own branded any worse or better than any other SD card?

Better than ~£12 for an 8GB SDHC card from the likes of Kingston or Transcend? Surely you jest . . .

Re: Best place to buy HD SD card

Has anyone bought an SD card from ebay, specifically Hong Kong.

SD card

From this guy a 16GB class 4 has gone for as little as £10, free delivery and a free card reader.

I know there are dodgy cards out there that aren't really as big as they say they are but his feedback from people who have bought these cards is good.

Might just take the plunge.......

Re: Best place to buy HD SD card

Given that the image on the page you've linked to shows a badly photoshopped Transcend card (with the brand name, which appears below the colour spectrum, blotted out), and the factual inaccuracies in the listing itself (SDHC is not "backward compatible with all devices designed to use Secure Digital cards" and the listing is for a Class 4 card but the card pictured clearly states Class 6), I'd be wary.

I'm just saying . . .

Re: Best place to buy HD SD card

Andrew I fully agree your views about the inaccuracies of the description/photos that this is not a recognized brand etc but if it works it works. I'm just going by the feedback left by buyers. I think i'm going to have a stab at one of these, what can go wrong ? I should be covered by PayPal if it's does not work/ not as described, well in theory anyway.

"what can go wrong ? I should be covered by PayPal.."

Its not just the money factor. What happens if you shoot important footage and the card breaks down? You could end up regretting buying cheap.
