Best old Mini DV Camcorder for low light?

I'm filming a wedding in a few weeks and could do with another camera I can leave on a tripod for wide shots. I don't really want to spend too much money as I know I can pick one up for under £100 on ebay but what I really want is a camera that had outstanding good reviews for filming in low light (inside a church) but is now 3 or 4 years old so available at a cheap price?

Any help or suggestions would be really useful.

I like the Canon MVX450 , I think using the night mode setting in fairly low light works very well I find it better then other cams I have tried in that price range.

It is discontiued but you may get it on ebay.

Re: Best old Mini DV Camcorder for low light?

The Sony TRV-900e is excellent in low light conditions.
This cam was a prosumer model with full manual control and mine set me back around £1500 back in 2000. The 900 was replaced by the 950, but this cam was no where near as good in low light. The TRV-890 was exactly the same cam as the 900 but without AV-in enabled.

Generally speaking for good low light recording you want a large diameter of lens and large CCD's. 1 CCD will generally be better than 3 for low light, except on the higher range cams such as the 900 which has 3.

The big downside to the TRV-900 is that the cam records a 4:3 image, so widescreen will result in reduced resolution unless using an anamorphic lens attachment.

Mark.
