Video8 to Computer - options

Hi,
I've been looking for a Sony D200 tape player for about a year and can't find one anywhere in PAL format. Does anyone know where I might get one?

If not, are there any similar units that will allow me to digitalise Video8 tapes?

Any help much appreciated.

Time to move into the 21st Century methinks!

Seroiusly though, why don't you invest in a HDD/DVD recorder. You can bung all your video to the HDD, rough edit and burn to DVD which you can easily import into the PC for further editing/enhancement?

Thing is I don't have camcorder to play these tapes in. Would you suggest getting an old camcorder and then use a HDD recorder to digitalize the video?

Re: Video8 to Computer - options

A few (and only a few) of the old Sony Digital8 camcorders were able to play analogue video8 & Hi8 tapes and output the footage via their firewire ports.
AFAIK Sony no longer make D8 cams, and even the last few models they did make did not play the analogue tapes. So if you do want to go the D8 route check the models that can play the analogue tapes and then search around places such as eBay to try and find one.
Otherwise get an old analogue camcorder that will play your tapes and either a DVD recorder or PC analogue to digital converter.

Mark.
