World at War - poor graphics?

What with all the beta codes flying about, there's lots of hype at the moment for World at War, but have any of you actually had a look at the graphics? I wasn't impressed with this screenshot I got sent this morning - bit of a let-down after COD4.

I agree. I think there's more buildings and structures in World at War which is great

Re: World at War - poor graphics?

probably exactly the same - the reason they look [worse] is because of the bigger maps, more trees, leaves, more wood, more buildes and more just "stuff" everywhere.
Compare Overgrown (cod4) to Roundhouse (cod5)
Roundhouse "looks" better than Overgrown.

Re: World at War - poor graphics?

For those of you taking the subject seriously:

The last thing a developer often does before release is to optimise the graphics. The level design, playability, etc comes first. That's why they talk about demos and betas not representing the finished article.

But this looks to be as polished, smooth and slick as COD4 to me anyway. Some levels are bound to look better than others due to the environment.

Good point - cod4 beta - i don't remember Overgrown and Crash looking AS good as the final retail release.

if I'm honest , i don't think the game is going to change that much from what we have now , why risk putting a poor game out to 30,000 people ? .

i think this is more about the servers

Re: World at War - poor graphics?

Given the release date is a month away and the way this "Beta" has been handled i would stick my neck out and say IMHO this is a demo. Based on that assumption, what you see is what you will get !

Re: World at War - poor graphics?

Of course it is. The net code is the same as cod 4. It's a good way of getting some hype. Not that i care. I'm playing and enjoying it.

Re: World at War - poor graphics?

IMO I think the graphics are brilliant, i love running around just going to all the places and looking at them (and shooting people as well!). If they get polished for the final version, then even better

Re: World at War - poor graphics?

Although I think the graphics in the Beta look outstanding already, I wouldn't be surprised if the maps get changed, or tweaked very slightly. I can't recall the specific changes on all of the maps last year, but I do remember that the bottom right hand corner of Overgrown, where the wooden bridge comes accross from the barn was changed a lot. Depending on feedback, I would expect the new maps to be tweaked for the full game.

I think you hit the nail on the head Stealthy. They are NOT interested in feedback, we haven't had to agree to any non-disclosure/secrecy clauses. We haven't been directed to a specific website with forums for us to discuss niggles or triumphs. This is a demo which is slowly being released under the guise of a "beta". Look at the forums, we have never had so many new members ! All after one thing........loads of new threads popping up, people willing to pimp their grandma for a code. They have pulled off a right publicity coup.

I give it a week before a statement like this:

"Due to the un-precedented demand for the COD5 Beta we have decided to reward our loyal fanbase and make the Beta available as a demo free to download from Xbox marketplace now"
