Map Battle-MW1 vs MW2

Just a bit of fun this one but interested to know how you guys think the new maps stack up against those in COD4? Obviously MW2 is still but a young un when it comes to exploring the maps to the hilt but I think IW certainly upped their game, I have compared a few of the maps from both games below with my thoughts on which is best, what do you think?

Creek vs Wasteland (Creek wins- better looking and more variety)
Overgrown vs Estate (Overgrown by a mile, estate just lacks that panache)
Backlot vs Favela (Close one but Favela tips it for me, so many options!)
Rust vs Shipment (No contest Rust is just better on every level)
Crash vs Karachi (Can Karachi hold a candle to the mighty Crash? Sadly not)
Ambush vs Highrise (The traditional 2 side war maps, Highrise wins for me because it has several ways of crossing the map)
Bloc vs Skidrow (Skidrow wins for me due to multiple routes to the enemy)
Broadcast vs Sub Base (Sub Base, just, Broadcast never won my heart but I think Sub Base will)
Vacant vs Terminal (I like Terminal but Vacant was just a classic map for me)
Downpour vs Underpass (Yes you may stick care packages on the top of the unfinished motorway but in time I think Underpass will become a fave, beats Downpour IMO)
Bog vs Derail (Hmmm tough one, both favour a low profile, I'd call it a draw)
Pipeline vs Quarry (I really like Quarry but Pipeline had it all with that unmistakeable polish that made it a COD4 legend)

Result: MW1= 5 MW2= 6

notwithstanding the fact i dislike Wasteland, Highrise and Underpass and i aint too keen on Favela i think MW2 has much better maps than MW1 - MW1's maps feel like glorified box rooms in comparison with very little gradient - the most adventurous MW1 got was Overgrown and Pipeline (never got the DLC)

Wasteland is a copy of Brecourt from COD 2. I still can't believe that out of all the maps in COD 2, they chose to copy over one of the worst ones!

I'm now quite familiar with all the mw2 maps and finally feel qualified to compare.. and yeah there's something in the relative simplicity of the mw1 maps that I prefer. The mw2 maps have grown on me a lot, and maybe they will more but it would be well interesting to play mw2 on mw1 maps

Nice thread with good comparisons.

I agree with most of what you said, with the exception of the above

For me, I think Highrise will be one of those maps that I just can't get into sometimes.

Terminal was an instant like for me with the setting.

I'm a bit fifty fifty with Derail myself aswell. I like the variety of spots etc, this could have benefited from some underground passages I suppose (a bit like pipeline). But I didn't like Bog at first, now I love it.

And I think Skidrow in the same vein as Chinatown to be honest. Love both.

I wasn't fond of many of the MW2 maps, but they have grown on me fast

yeah I'd agree with a lot of that. Ambush > highrise.

and great idea about putting an underground pasage in derail.

It's funny because at first I hated Derail and Quarry, thought they were just a bit random but having played them more I think both are excellent and well constructed maps with a good mix of camping places and open shoot out areas, the one downside with Derail is if the team at the end with large building decides to mainly snipe you invariably end up running the length of the map, get shot-repeat

I think Favela and Quarry are my 2 favourite maps overall

that's where the underground passage would help!

Chinatown was one of my least favourite maps.
For the same reason I don't like a lot of the MW2 maps - too many levels, windows, doorways, etc.
Nine times out of 10 the last place I look is where I get shot from.

It hard to pick as i spent so long on the COD4 maps that i know them so well, only just getting to the point on MW2 where my map knowledge is really starting to kick in, it say bar say Crash & Backlot i prefer MW2 as the map are bigger more detailed and fairly balanced.

if you were to compare mw2 maps to mw1 maps, every single one of the mw 1 maps win imo.

I would love to see one of the DLC map packs to be a 'Retro MW map pack' with Overgrown, Backlot, Crash, Vacant, Downpour and Pipeline Each one could be extended in size perhaps, it would be great to see how the new multiplayer engine would work on the old maps.

Chinatown was a re-skin of one of the CoD2 maps (can't remember which one now, but it was one of my favourites!).

These would have to be at a knockdown price, 800 points for maps i have played for 2 years no thanks!

I think I prefer the COD4 maps. The COD6 maps have far too many corners, boxes, windows etc. that people can kill you from without you having a clue they were there. I'm finding it impossible to build up my kill streaks since I can just be randomly killed at any time unless I camp somewhere. COD 4 had more "funnels of death" as I call them () so you knew if you went there without being careful you would probably get shot. I'm sure many people prefer the more complicated new maps, but I prefer to run and gun, not to be creeping around slowly in case there is someone sneaky sitting behind a box.
