Friends chat in MW2!

Ok, so not party chat, but I've found myself repeating myself loads to people who complain about the lack of party chat and having to deal with all the idiots on MW2.

So... Press the Guide button,
Go to Settings
Go to Profile
Go to Edit Profile
Got to Privacy Settings
Go to Voice and Text
Select Friends Only.

This way you will only be able to talk to and listen to your mates in the game, providing they are on the same side anyway. When it goes to lobby you have the 30 seconds / minute to continue the banter with your mates anyway.

Also, you need to have them on your friends list too.

Job done, kinda...

Mods - sorry if there is no need for this, but the few people who have seen / had forgotten you could do this have got benefit from it. If no need, feel free to delete.

Re: Friends chat in MW2!

I agree it's great for cutting out randoms, you do all have to be in the same match though.

Private chat also works if there's just two of you. But I quite often used to play with friends of friends and it's a shame groups like that can no longer chat amongst themselves, especially across different games which, IMO was great.

Or you could just mute everyone else. Either whilst in the lobby or if you're straight into a game then just bring up the team list and select whoever and press A and it will toggle them onto mute.

Job's a good 'un!

If you mute them I take it they can still hear you?

Might not be good for me, as when I am just chatting amongst friends the language can get extremely rude!

It is all in good humor but others listening in might think it was a offensive

Sweet cheers mate

will give this a try, its so annoying trying to speak over the randoms when your in a lobby!

even when your only trying to get everyone to back to the lobby for one reason or another, you find some of your mates don't hear you and then you end up missing someone etc etc.

Has anyone actually petitioned this with Infinity Ward?
It seems to be the biggest issue us gamers are having with MW2 therefore I think it really needs to be addressed.

In reality, party chat only spoils it for US and if we want it back then the minimal cheating that it encourages is a small price to pay for an overall improved LIVE experience.

Doesn't Mercenary TD specifically not allow parties? not sure if it's changed in MW2 but that's how it was in WAW. So you can only chat to other people in the party if they are not in your game?

Correct. You can't enter Mercenary TDM with buddies on your team.

You can invite people in the to Mercenary TDM and have party chat on, but there is no gurantee you will on the same team... I have played like this a few times.

I go down the route of muting everyone else on our team so you can only hear your friends, but that's bloody annoying having to do it every game and it does make you wonder if the other guys on your team can hear you...

I think one thing I have learnt is IW don't give a rats rear end about what we want.

If they did PCs would have servers, we would have more hardcore and party chat

It certainly looks that way.

Even one "Mosh Pit" Style playlist that allowed proper party chat would be enough for me, I love the variety in Moshpit and tbh besides the odd round of FFA I don't think I'd play anything else if I could chat in one playlist with all the gametypes.

To be expected really.

Unless you are playing with friends the great unwashed (mostly) really have no interest in either being civil or playing as a team.

Play with me, I'll do the whole 'tango's on your six!' thing
