Is it just me, or does anyone else have no idea wth is being said in this game?

It's all the little abbreviations and code words that confuse the hell out of me. I played through the whole game on Veteran and I still don't know what 'Oscar Mike' means. We're oscar mike, then enemy are oscar mike. I don't know if it's good or bad but I heard it a lot.

'Watch out the enemy have a BTR!'

That's good no what the hell is a BTR, they got a tank, that might be it, I don't know. 'Don't engage the BTR'. Well, I'll try not to, but unless you're going to give me a clue, I don't know if I'm engaging it or not. Mind you, if it is that tank thing, I'm hardly going to run at it with my machine gun now am I?

'Whiskey Hotel'

I spent ages heading to whiskey hotel in the campaign, fully expecting to get to a hotel that had been turned into an enemy strong hold. It wasn't until it appeared over the horizon that I realised whiskey hotel was WH, the White House!

Playing in special ops mode I've been told that there is an enemy helicopter approaching loaded for bear. For bear? I thought it said full bear, which actually made sense to me and made me thinking it was fully loaded with stuff to take me out. Then I read the subtitles.

I felt like Forrest Gump running through this game, with all this stuff going on that I had no idea about. In the end I just worked on the principle that if a green name didn't appear by someone when I was targeting them, they got killed and if something looked a bit too big for my weapon at hand, I avoided it.

Anyone else confused by any of these, or am I alone in my numptiness?

Yeah, I hear you with the "oscar mike" thing they keep saying over and over. I presume it stands for something. Maybe "on the move", I'm not sure though.

BTR is the wheeled Armoured Personnel Carrier.

I haven't heard Soap say 'I think its time to Foxtrot Oscar out of here yet'...

Anymore?

Cracking post, made me lose my breakfast, damn you.

I also had no idea about Whiskey Hotel, I was wondering why everyone was regrouping at a hotel. Sadly, I still had no idea what it was after completing the game (everything is so dark and in your face, no time to look around).

Things such as Oscar Mike & Whiskey Hotel are terms from the phonetic alphabet which is commonly used by the Military & Goverment Agencies as a quick and efficient means of communicating.

I presume that Whiskey Hotel is in reference to the White House as in the mission you have to take it back from the enemy forces. And the with Whiskey being the phonetic term for W and Hotel being the term for H it makes sense to me but.

I commonly also hear the phonetic term Tango which refers to letter T and is used in the place of saying "Target". Mainly said by SAS type unit when and enemy is killed "Tango Down!".

If you don't know about the phonetic alphabet and it's military uses then i can see how you could find it difficult, i could also be wrong in some of my assumptions so anyone feel free to correct me.

Yes, I worked out it was the White House as I said in my post. I'm familiar with the phonetic alphabet but the penny didn't drop that Whiskey Hotel was that until I got to the White House. I seriously thought we were going to a hotel.

I did figure that Oscar Mike was OM but still didn't have a clue what it meant. Out Maneuvered, On Me, Oily Men, Only Miniature, Over Malicious, could have stood for anything for all I knew and I had no idea whether it was a good thing or a bad thing.

I think even I can work that one out!

It's probably slang for something else though.

It all adds to the realism. It doesn't get more real-life than COD

Oscar Mike - On the Move ???

Isn't White House easier to say than Whiskey Hotel ? What a faff on these army fellers are.

Yes but if you said white house they might think it was a hotel full of whiskey.

It's such a common phrase heard in MP as well, but I haven't a clue what they're saying.

Pretty sure i've heard "Bambi" in MP too.

Might just be my poor hearing, that's all.

Oh, and i think it was on Underpass too. I'll confirm later.

Might have been Scrapyard.

To be fair to us both, it was in a pretty poor state of repair

And what's with calling it 'Whiskey Hotel' in the first place, what's with the code-words? The enemy clearly knew it was there
