The MW2 Spec Ops Veteran's Thread

There doesn't seem to be much talk about Spec Ops which is surprising since it is a near perfect blend of missions and contains everything great from the Campaign as well as some brilliant extras.

For those that have completed the Campaign on Veteran and are disappointed by the lack of challenge, Spec Ops Veteran is for you. A few of the missions rank amongst the hardest things I've ever done in a game but were also the most rewarding.

This thread is for strategies and opinions on all missions and any difficulty setting, solo or co-op.

me and my co op partner are so stuck on snatch & grab, weve had 5 juggernaughts on occasions, i dont know if we're wasting to much time picking all the guys off on the hill from the plane but we always end up dying via a juggernaught really annoyed with it as we've been at it for hours now

We played the first part of this mission up to the plane at least 25 times trying to get down the hill. Do you get the juggernaughts spawning behind you when you've taken out most of the people at the bottom of the hill?

The time we finally did it involved my mate taking out the soldiers while I sat at the bottom of the plane waiting for the juggernaught to spawn. I took out the first one with the Intervention but then as I was reloading another came (you can imagine what I was thinking at that point). My team mate had to run back and help kill him because he was pretty close by then. After that we were all geared up to leave when I saw a third naught spawn behind us again! We both took him and realised that was our only opportunity to go so we legged it down the right side of the hill (left has quite a few enemies obscured by the plane so going right bypasses them). Upon reaching the plane wreckage at the bottom we looked on our radar to see a fast approaching red dot coming from up the hill in front of us. I had already stepped out and got instantly hit to one shot, forcing me back behind cover while my team mate shot desperately at the juggernaught. I managed to get enough health back and helped bring him down with LMG fire and we both sprinted up the hill. Unfortunately having never got that far before we realised that there are about 5 soldiers all hiding behind cover past the metal crates so we had to take cover. As we crouched there whilst under fire from down the hill and the soldiers between us and the finish, a single grenade rolled around the corner and stopped at my feet . I made a split second decision and sprinted around the right corner before lying down on the far right of the area, just a few meters away from my mate who backed against the wall but seperated by the big metal storage containers. In a last ditch attempt I stood right up and fired my LMG from right to left at any enemy I could see. After 10 seconds I stopped as the clip ran out but it didn't matter as I had miraculously got them all without being hit. I shouted "Holy **** RUN!" (for about the 5th time since the mission start) and we ran as fast as the game would let us to the finish flare.

My friend still has no idea how I took them all down and all I know is that I would have died if I didn't have the huge clip of the LMG and had to reload instead. It was the most stressful mission I've ever done but finishing it was incredible and made the hours spent worth it.

Huge post I know but that mission deserves one .

Ive only dabbles in SPec Ops, and only played a few missions alone, and its rock hard!!!

Are the enenys tailored for single players?

Re: The MW2 Spec Ops Veteran's Thread

Wow, it doesn't really count as a noobtube if you get 11 kills with one shot does it .

I've just tried it out and it works, the grenade has to hit the truck killing everyone in but then you have to take out the APCs quickly for them to be included in the combo. It's pretty much luck whether they kill you or not but a few tries and you should get it.

Re: The MW2 Spec Ops Veteran's Thread

I'm absolutely loving going through Spec Ops. I've done about 6-7 of them with three stars, aiming to do them all on Vet. Finding the stealth ones the most difficult at the moment - they say to use stealth but then a firefight is often unavoidable...

How do you know where to fire the first shot? It just looks like a shot to nothing through the smoke?

As you're walking towards the smoke look in the background and you'll see the truck go past.

I can only get a 10 kill streak bonus though and didn't manage to get the multiplier on the 2 APC's. But I just hungaround and picked a few of the soldiers off until I got the 3 stars - ended up doing it in about 1 min 30 i think.

Got to say I love the stealth ones as well, but it is amazing at how blind the guards are. On evasion you can pretty much crawl about 4 metres away from them and they don't see you at all.

I'm pretty sure all (3?) of the stealth ones can be done without being detected apart from by the snipers on Hidden. If you are with someone else it is all about taking targets out at the same time, calling out which one you are going to shoot at and getting into the position to get two for one shots. Even on your own it is possible to take out large groups by killing the back soldiers first and, if you are quick with your aiming, you can even shoot someone in front of another and then quickly take out the second in the 1-2 seconds before the alert sounds. The enemy reacting to your shot doesn't mean you're going to be spotted if you are fast enough.

I loved the stealth missions the most but found them by far the easiest with those tricks .

Is it possible to do the 1st stealth mission (in the snow) on your own in Veteran?

Try as I might I just can't seem to take out the 2 lots of 2 guards without being rumbled?

No I haven't - I figured there'd be no chance of success as the 2 sets of guards were so close to one another...

i sneaked the whole way except for killing 2 guards, which guards are you talking about ?

What i did :

When you first start run to the right all away along the fence until you are stopped by a tree and stay there until all 4 guards pass, then go to the left until you see the 3 guards next to the fence, wait a few until the guard with his dog comes past then run up the middle under the piping until you get next to the tree where 2 guards are standing talking.
If you take out the 1 on the right the left 1 moves forward and you can take him out as easier.
Then keep going up the left dont worry about the guards on the right as they carnt see you, when you get to the corner bit wait a few and watch the guards do there walk about theres about 5 guards and 2 dogs. after the last guard starts walking up the hill run straight a head and up to the right, if you keep an eye on the guards and keep moving around whilst staying to the right you should be fine (make sure you keep an eye on the guards especially the dogs just keep your distance and patients) after you have gone right you will see 2 guards at the top of the hill just take them both out and run to the top.

Re: The MW2 Spec Ops Veteran's Thread

What I'm doing, or where I'm getting to is...

From the start, same as you, head right and hide under a bush under all 4 guards have gone past, then I leave and stay on the path to the right. Further up I get to a guard with a dog, with another 2 guards in the distance at the end of the path (where it opens up). I take those 2 guards out, and then the single guard with the dog (the other way round tends to alert the 2 at the end) - I can then move up to where the 2 (now dead) guards were and watch as the patrol (3 guards, 2 dogs) walk past and up the hill - the guard at the back will lag behind and can be taken out without alerting the others.

So now I'm heading up the hill following behind the patrol. Once the patrol guards have moved away I can move up and see 2 guards standing next to the fence (the route that leads to the finish) and 2 more guards and dog in the distance (next to a rock). It's here I'm getting stuck...

Re: The MW2 Spec Ops Veteran's Thread

i love the spec ops on this game, definitely the best part of it for me.

just got hidden to do tonight then have managed to get thru alpha, bravo and charlie. i've managed a few on my own, but the majority with a friend to be honest. i'll be trying hidden on my own tho, as i like the evasion ones going solo.

anyone know if it is possible to avoid the snipers on hidden tho? or is it designed that they see you?

if anyone wants to buddy up then feel free to add me too.
