MW2 Moaning Thread

Not bought the game yet - still not sure.

Been hearing a few people say that the MP has become overcomplicated, too manic, less tactical, more random.

I'm worried they've gone and broken the multiplayer like they did with Gears 2.

I already wasn't a huge fan of COD4 online. I enjoyed it for a change but thought it had a lot of flaws.

Thoughts on negative comments?

Re: MW2 Moaning Thread

Multiplayer is a bit overwhelming at first, but it's better than COD4 in my opinion.

To moan: The storyline is a bit thin. You're just dropped in places and told "Go shoot s**t up", with no reasoning as to why you're there or what the circumstances are. Very confusing. I'd probably enjoy it more if I was an American, because that's where an awful lot of the game's big moments are set...

Re: MW2 Moaning Thread

I guess I should reply as I'm one of those who thinks MP is too manic.

There's too much going on and it's a lot more arcadey.
Stealth and tactics are virtually impossible.

The air support is ridiculous as once the helicopter's up the game is virtually over.
Now that you can control it, they hang around outside spawn points and just get easy kills.
Several times now I've been spawn killed 5 times this way.

It's all well and good saying shoot it down.
The problem is you're killed before you take a step so have no chance.

What happened to the 5 second spawn shield that was mentioned a while ago?

So far I'm really not enjoying it.

It's another GTAIV for me - spent months looking forward to it only to be let down.

Wow its not even close to the botch job epic did on Gears 2, i loved G1 and played it loads online, i dont think i got past 1hr on 2.

MW is different from COD4 but it more subtle differences, the main gripe seems to be too much air support and not enough stealth, whilst these complaints are valid i feel, with some creative class setups and a slight adjustment in play style people could probably adapt.

Then again why should they have to change the way they play? Your never going to please everyone i guess.

It's definitely more manic than COD4, but in terms of being tactical you get used to how manic it is. Like most CODs, it gets easier the more you rank up, and the variety of perks really allows you to tailor your game to how you want to play. Noobs will definitely suffer, but if you're willing to put in the many hours it takes to work out the best approach for you, it's well worth it IMO.

We played a few private matches with a load of the old Gears crew last night - everyone seemed to have a good laugh.

The painkiller deathstreak perk greatly increases your health for 10 seconds after you spawn.

They definitely haven't done an Epic on it - if you've played COD4, you'll have no problems working out what to do in MW2.

Although stealth is tough at first, once you unlock some of the perks and attachments, it gets a lot easier to play stealthily. Many people talk about having a second class set up purely to take out the enemy's air support - I haven't tried this yet but it makes a lot of sense, it's a tactical way of making sure you aren't being dominated from the skies.

Re: MW2 Moaning Thread

ive been playing this on the ps3 but agree with whats said here, the MP is very arcadey, theyve obviously tried to merge the arcade bit from the 1st one with the MP and its just very messy... the maps arent doing anything for me either...

The SP storyline is a total mess though, my fave missions from the original MW game were the SAS missions, not always guns blazing and set in a potential real world environment, not to mention the absolutely tense set pieces without having to have all guns blazing (crawling through the field as the army passes you by in Prypiat anyone) that this game just doesnt have...

the Spec Ops looks good though so this might be the one saving grace for me....

in the meantime, i was back online on the original MW last night..

Which is precisely why they should have reset the servers on the official launch day.

Starting out at rank 1 against people on rank 40 and above with all the perks and weapons is no way to introduce new players to the genre.

Of course that doesn't help those who get the game weeks or months later.
I can see a lot of people being put off due to it.

Amen to that, I feel IW missed a trick with that and bottled it. They seemed scared of upsetting all those spawney buggers who got the game early. legitimately I might add.

Personally, I wouldn't have minded the stats being reset. However like you said, everyone has to start somewhere. Rank hasn't got much to do with how good you are at the game anyway - this isn't built like Halo3. In all honesty, in the same way as COD4, the first few weapons you get are the best and I still use them even though I'm around level 29 now.

Re: MW2 Moaning Thread

My biggest whinge is the grenade launchers. I hated them in the CoD4, I still hate them in MW2. For me they spoil the game. As for the running around malarky I reckon that'll settle down a bit once people get to know the maps a bit better.

To be fair, I was epxecting a gubbing when i started playing MP and although I lost my first online game of FFA I then won the next 3, against much higher ranked players so it didnt do me too much harm.

Re: MW2 Moaning Thread

Re Halo 3, I meant in terms of the way the ranking system works. I know a lot of people are put off by the arcadey elements, but I really like them, there's something old school about them and I've got that kind of personality that gets a useless feeling of satisfaction when I unlock new stuff. I felt no urge to prestige in COD4, but I already want to in MW2, because of all the fun of unlocking stuff. Sad, I know...but I can't help enjoying it!

Yeah, I think a lot of people expect the higher levels to already be amazing at the game, and of course there will be a few like that. A lot though will just have put more hours in, but it doesn't mean they'll be great at the game.

I doubt I will prestige....if I keep the game that long that is.

I don't think I can go through the pain of the first 25 ranks again.

Re: MW2 Moaning Thread

In the early days of COD 4 everyone ran around with RPG's as a perk so they could take down the heli's, after a while most people realised it was a waste of a perk and just either avoided the helis or got killed.
It was often the team that got the most helis and airstrikes that won in COD4
In WAW the airstrikes were so powerful and lasted so long they took over, you couldn't do much other than to wait them out - hard to even focus on the screen let alone play the game.

MW2 is the same except its made it so that everyone can get killstreak bonus's - far from make the game one sided I think they've completely opened it up. You can even down a helis with another killstreak perk.

There may be the need to adapt your gamestyle to suit but hey...! - isn't that what we wanted? a new COD game?!!
I'm glad its not turned out to be just another MW1 map pack and I'm finding it a real enjoyable challenge to get my head around the new set-up.

If you're not happy then take it back to the shop and play COD4 instead...! no?... anyone?... no-takers?...no surprise there then.

Jeez - just play tthe game and give it a few months before starting inane threads like this.

i may well just be doing that given time......

as for "inane threads like this", people are fully entitled to their opinion even if, shock of shocks, it disagrees with yours...

I think that's the most important point.

Whether you paid £20 in Makro or £45 in Game.. if it was exactly the same as COD4 but with new maps, do what GTAIV has done and just add a whole load of expansions online.

It's a new game, and if it was the same, people would be wondering what the hell they had been anticipating and what IW had been spending their time doing other than making new maps, and a SP mode that tbh, is a bit lacking in areas.

Re: MW2 Moaning Thread

never really understood why people say this game has no tactical element compared to cod4. i play mw2 exactly the same as cod4/waw, just with the added bonus of occasionally calling in a care package (which have to be well placed, i have been jacked up a few times doh!) or air support. if the other team has air support, shoot it down. it may seem arcadey will all the point bonus's but its nice to be rewarded for a good shot/payback on a camping gimp. im happy to prestige again as the 'noob' loadouts are decent as well.

i think thats my biggest gripe in the game..... i still play missions various from the original MW game, the storyline was great, the scripting was cool, the characters were bang on, in this one its just a huge mish-mash of crap... In the first game when your man was killed off it was a shocking moment, in MW2 (spoilered) when your CIA character gets murdered at the end of the airport mission nobody cared because we barely got chance to know him

I saw a comment on this forum by a user i cant remember but i agree exactly with what was said..

"are we supposed to accept a crapp SP campaign because the MP is all big shiny and new"... (or words roughly to that effect..)

Re: MW2 Moaning Thread

with reference to it being manic, it depends what gametype you play.

Search and destroy, Demolition and (when I rank up up enough) Capture the flag are a less chaotic than TDM/Groundwar etc.

Love the game. I would agree that the Air support/gunners stuff is a bit too OTT.

Looking forward to playing Hardcore gametype (again once I've ranked up).

I think it's alright to have a moan as long as it's constructive. So much boils down to personal preference, but trying to be objective about it, there's very little that is actually wrong with the game - it's very well balanced, if you're willing to put in the effort. They've just taken the best of COD4 and suped it up, and that takes some getting used to.

I wouldnt call it bitching, merely expressing a calm opinion which is after all allowed

Re: MW2 Moaning Thread

Maybe it's just going to be one of those games that doesn't suit certain people for whatever reason?

I keep hearing about BFBC2 so I might check that out and see if it's more my style.

Not yet - do you get a crosshair to aim with, or is it just spray'n'pray?

I was playing a bit with your bro last night mate, he seems to be enjoying it. He's in full-on stealth mode (Cold Blooded, Ninja, Silencer), very hard to find!
