Anyone dissapointed when comparing to COD4?

There has been some growing unsatisfaction on the interweb and I have to say that I am feeling the same way.

The Sp story is ridiculous from what I can make of it. Half the time I have no idea why I am doing what I am doing or who exactly it is I am shooting at or why. It just seems like one massive set piece after another just for the sake of it.

COD4 at least gave you some sense of purpose and a rough idea of what you were tyring to do.

Also the MP is way too busy. COD4 MP's best asset was its intricate simplicity ()
The problem with MW2 is that the maps are bloody huge, there are too many doorways, alleyways, windows, balconies, bushes, tunnels, etc for other players to spring from. Sometimes its impossible to stay alive when your being shot at from every angle.

You also seem to loose track of where your team is half the time and end up on your own lonewolving it, for all the talk of disabling party chat for a better team experience, its a lot worse than in COD4 I havent yet experienced any teamwork at all.

There are too many kill streak perks now too, its over the top sillyness. I dont like all the badges and id tags - its the same system as Street Fighter IV, it was ok there, but leave it out of this please. I also dont like the weapons you start with, most are underpowered or just unlikeable.

I also find the menus for the challenges etc, not as clear or well laid out as they were before. All in all it feels like they have turned it into an Arcade noob-fest paradise

I will still play it and still find it ok but it certainly isnt grabbing me the way that COD4 did, and instead is turning out to be a bit of an overhyped (and for some) overpriced, let down.
Im glad I only paid £26 for it as thats all I think its worth.

Re: Anyone dissapointed when comparing to COD4?

However much I was excited and involved with the hype, I did allow for the element of dissapointment in some areas. (Which is why I didn't trade in COD4 to get this one at a cheaper price)

But, after about 2 hours on SP and 3 on MP, I find myself caught up in the hype and loving it.
There are differences, but I think they will show themselves to be positives once everyone adjusts.

Not you personally, but with a lot of people saying that they don't like this about the maps, or that about the menus, it sounds like if the game wasn't an exact replica of COD4, people are dissapointed, but I think there would be a lot more disgruntlement if we had queued up in the rain at god knows what time and shelled out cash for something that hadn't been developed.

There are bits i'm not mad on, and the party chat thing is an issue, even if you can change your settings to friends only, but overall, I think it's an improved version of the game.

I sold my copy due to this reason, I admit I didn't play cod4 too much but from
my pov I much prefered that to this game :-)

Re: Anyone dissapointed when comparing to COD4?

Yep, LOADS..... copied my post from the PS3 forums below, all this based on the SP Campaign as i havent touched MP to much just yet.....

It is the Transformers 2 of games on the SP i think, y'know, took all the loud bits and made them louder but missed the reason why the 1st one was so cool....

The mission where the chopper goes down and your given 1 minute to rescue the pilot or flee because of the nuclear weapon about to go off was an amazing experience and when i carried the pilot out i honestly thought i'd made it... only for the nuke to actually go off.... WHAT a gaming moment!!

Now we have MW2, its all out war from day 1, no subtlety, no finesse, rush in and kill everyone and then it ends...

A lot of people are saying COD4 on steroids as a good thing... i think its absolutely right but its a bad thing, they shouldve slowed the game in parts. I also think it was a BLATENT rip off from WaW and i have no idea why IW did that as they are supposed to release the stronger COD games... For example (and spoilered)

The ice pick's climbing bit.... crap fad, no challenge to gameplay and shoe horned much like the ps3's tilt axis controller...

The bit in Washington DC where your raiding the lines around the Washinton Monument was ripped directly from raiding the final mission in WaW where you raid the German Gov HQ, only difference, it was at night.... This game is WaW but with newer weapons..

No SAS, i loved the SAS missions and thought they worked very well, now we are given some crappy "Team 141" which is supposed to be a multi-national force but is ordered around by the CIA...

Gaz is blatently Ghost..... he was killed bt Zakhaev in a shocking execution moment, at least have the balls to stick with it!!

The fact that just after you recover Capt Price he is by default in team 141 and is declaring to Shepherd just how nothing is impossible for the 141.... youve been in a **** hole of a prison the last 5 years and have seen nothing but a botched rescue, how the hell do you know how good/not the 141 is???!!!

Russia goes to War and invades America because they found an American guy at the airport massacre?? (and before you say it - no "America went to war with Afghanistan over 9/11 - America and Afghan are 2 very different countries!)

The American invasion, do all russian troops die once the EMP is detonated or something????

The final fight the Price and Shepherd, what a bag of cack attempt to recreat the gun sliding across the floor from the first game, button bashing on the square button to recover the knife is just a bit crass and doesnt fit in a COD game...

I think thats it for now although more may come to me.... Ahh... that feels better to get that lot off my chest...

The MP, ive only had 1 game on TDM and i enjoyed it (although got my behind kicked).... i'm gonna stick with it and hope the spec ops is better but if not, it will be going up for sale at the weekend.

I wouldve been ROYALLY hacked off if i'd paid £55 for this game..

Re: Anyone dissapointed when comparing to COD4?

The blood splat does my head in and i dont like the emblems and titles as very childish looking and arcadey!

Also find the point system too much, the simple points for kill and assist were just right.

Apart from that im enjoying it...

Re: Anyone dissapointed when comparing to COD4?

Yeah I have to agree about the campaign, it's just hectic for no reason, and the story makes no sense to me.

A lot more framerate drops than cod4 too.

I haven't ventured online yet though, but if the camping is as bad as people are saying I'll sell the game.

I'm gonna see who camps most the ps3 crowd or the 360 crowd.

Having only ever played the COD4 SP and only had a bit of WaW on multiplayer, I have to say that this is a bit of an issue for me. It's a damn steep learning curve for us newbies!

I'm not a camper, I'm a run 'n' gun type of player and I was getting shot all over the place. Still, at least I was giving the opposition some target practice! Think I'll give the team deathmatch a miss and just go for free for all games for a while. Once I've unlocked some decent weapons I might give team games a go.

Re: Anyone dissapointed when comparing to COD4?

I think that (as with all sequels) you have to try and forget about the prequels and regard it as a new game. COD4 was, and still is, regarded as the best MP game ever and people are always going to take time to adjust. IW cant please everyone and there are always going to be unhappy people with a massive release like this.

Fair enough the MP is very chaotic but thats down to people getting used to the maps working things out. Give it a couple of weeks and things will have calmed down, people will know where they're going, know when to use that care package/stinger missile etc and wont be running round like headless chickens. I sometimes find it frustrating now but i'm pretty sure i'll get used to it

I've only played a few missions on SP but cant beleive how dissapointing the snowmobile level is I was really looking forward to that part of the game). Like i said...They cant please everyone.

Just my 2p's worth :-)

Re: Anyone dissapointed when comparing to COD4?

Although I like the rewards for things like revenge kills etc, the amount of points for everything makes it confusing.

Take a 0 off the point system for everything(EG. 10 points for something rather than 100) and I think it would take the arcadey feel away from the points system.

Re: Anyone dissapointed when comparing to COD4?

i'm just a MP, i have come from WAW, not really played COD4 since WAW came out and i am a HUGE fan of WAW. MW2 seems so frantic and fast compared to WAW, the original poster makes some very valid points, i too think there are too many killstreak perks and its too easy to get some of them, with hardline and care package you can get some a 15 kill streak perk for onyl 4 kills! yes some of the maps seem big also, like the big snowy one, i've always thought those maps would be better for say 12 per team not 6, which i think you can have in some games like war but i only play team deathmatch. all on all loving the game though, some good attachments and some not so good ones but enjoying greatly so far

Re: Anyone dissapointed when comparing to COD4?

I haven't played MP yet, I have done about 45% of SP and 60% of spec ops and I have to say I love everything about it so far, however, I have had a pretty decent break from COD4 and hated WaW so for me there was little comparing to previous versions on going.

Re: Anyone dissapointed when comparing to COD4?

Single player for me, or what I've played of it so far, has been really disappointing. There seems very little point to any of what you are doing. Cod 4 story wise really puts this to shame.

Multi player has saved this game for me though, can't get enough of it!

I am loving it so far.
Haven't had much MP as of yet but it's already better than WAW for me.
Agree on the different game comment, COD4 is a different game and if i wanted it to be like COD4, i'd play COD4.

Whilst fighting in America did anyone else think "where's all the civilians? They have guns surely they would be shooting the russians!"

Re: Anyone dissapointed when comparing to COD4?

To be honest i didnt like the storyline at all. Might of been somthing to do with just finishing Uncharted 2 (which really grips you).

Online is fantastic though, pace is a little quick but i dont find it much quicker than cod4.

Spec ops is also pretty good (but hard). Would of liked more the 2 players though, 4 people holding off waves would be great

Re: Anyone dissapointed when comparing to COD4?

........now thats how to make a 'sequel' epic !!!

I absolutley love this game apart from 2 things,

1, 'no party chat'
2, I'm getting no sleep at all !!!!!

imo this is an excellent game and all-in-all a good improvement on cod4. It was always going to be a toughy for IW to make a better game than 4 but they have succeeded where others have failed

I see lots of late nights ahead in the next few months

Re: Anyone dissapointed when comparing to COD4?

Online's considerably better, much more varied which was always going to irritate people who got so used to the first (which you're still allowed to play) and there's much more to do in terms of gun challenges and variation of unlocks for those of us who don't simply want to play the same modes over and over for our points. Shooting and controls are familiar and tight, perks are more fun and cheap stuff like juggernaught and 3xFrag have been cleaned out for a much smarter setup. The perks/streaks/weapons are actually far better balanced this time around and it's noticeable compared to the first game, not sure where you're going with that one. They've whipped the most powerful gun, that's noticeably an all round advantage, away from the off and given a much more even selection across the board.

With the maps, sounds more like you're just not used to them, not overly surprising considering it's been out two days and we've been playing the likes of Crash and Crossfire for two years.

Single player campaign isn't as good as COD4, it's still an outstanding campaign. Yeah they've gone heavy on the set pieces, but no-one puts together an FPS set piece like Inifinity Ward. Not sure how anyone could get confused in it either really, IW not a complex storyteller and the gameplay is rightly linear in this kind of game.

Have only had a glance at Spec Ops but everyone i've spoke to seems to love it.

It's an improvement overall on COD4. People might forget due to the time since that came out, but an actual improvement on that is quite the achievement.

So you're dissatisfied with non-linear gameplay and you ambivalently call this arcade?

To be sure, I agree with CoD being arcade but this is not something new to MW:2, this was something introduced in CoD 4 and I've voiced that fact over the last couple of weeks while discussing the release of MW: 2.

Sure it feels like a "noob fest" right now, but just because it's not CoD 4 2.0 with a face lift doesn't mean its bad. I actually refused to play the first modern warfare because I felt the exact same way you feel now, I just hated the arcade feel to it. My feelings mollified over the years and I ended up purchasing this game.

1) The titles and emblems are absolutely ridiculous, I don't mind that they are there but they mean nothing to me.
2) The kill streak perks are a little crazy, but you'll notice that at higher levels there are peaks that help protect you from predator missiles and such.

Still, the killstreak perks in vanilla TDM and the like do feel a bit superfluous but they aren't incredibly overpowered by any means.

I've been playing mostly S & D hardcore since I hit 19 and it is a much cleaner feel since it's hard for someone to kill the entire team in one round for a crazy killstreak... Care packages still come, but even then 4 kills on a hardcore SnD round is still something only really good players do consistently.

Although this game is still laden in a sticky arcade environment, not unlike COD 4, I'm glad they've provided non-linear large maps; this will allow for some more diversity in gameplay.
