Perhaps. If I was to explain what it was that may help.

Imagine you've turned the tv onto a static channel but the volume jumps up about 100 decibels. But it's intermittent not constant.

That's what I get. And I only get it on the ps3.

what i get is different. not so much like tv static(at least i dont remember it being like that) more like a really loud echo(i cant explain it) eventually it gets quieter and stops, leaving no sound at all for a bit then the sound comes back. its not intermittent at all.
Maybe mine is different to everyone elses? next time it happens ill have to confirm its not like tv static.

I got this again the other day, pressing the PS button to return to the XMB, then pressing PS again to return back to the game stopped it.

Described it perfectly, its like an amplifier hum but with other strange goings on. Only happened to me twice and both times on mw3

Its been put in by activision to stop campers. You camp you get the noise you move it stops. A bit like the happy slap in counterstrike.

had this for first time last night on Seatown (about 8.30pm) joined an already active game and the sharkoons nearly blew my eardrums off! thought someone was playing through mic to annoy everyone but no one was mic'd up. Lasted about a minute (till I died as I was trying to mute it) then stopped when I'd respawned.?

I'm a daily gamer on my PS3 and I have witnessed this white noise issue a few times but only on MW3, not on any other source and not on any other games. It scares the living hell out of you when it happens though and I play my games LOUD!!! I prefer to feel it rather than hear it.

Does anyone know what the problem is yet? I had this happen to me again earlier.
Must have happened about four times in total.
Really worries it's going to screw my speakers on my tv.

I had this happen today too. First time in about a month. I thought it was over with.

Occurred in Dome FFA.

The connection to IW servers has been pitiful today. So I am guessing it has to be a server connection issue?

Yeah, I think I might have been in the same game as you then as I was playing ffa, think it might have been Dome too.
Seemed to go on for a bit longer than it has done before.
I chucked out of a game due to server connection problems.
That noise is really bad, they need to sort it out, if it screws the speakers in my tv, I will be contacting Activision to cover the cost of repair!

Had it happen on outpost, Village, sea town and dome - randomly mid game sound goes off or really bad crackling noise... almost deafening"""

Not sure why, has to be a bug in the game though, really odd

Have they mentioned patching this somehow? I'm getting quite worried about my setup now

They have improved it as when it first used to happen it would last for a good full minute to two minutes.

Now days when it happens it lasts for about 10-15 seconds.

But seriously it is deafening. I would seriously be nervous to use headphones when playing this game as it really is full blast top volume of the speakers totally out the blue for those 15 seconds of garbled static noise.

My biggest complaint is when you are playing and rank up...it has like a 15-20 second DEAFENING audio clip that you ranked up. I was in the middle of a 1v1 cat and mouse game playing SnD and shot a claymore and spent 15 seconds hiding in a corner because I couldn't hear anything.

I was in a game of sea town yesterday, I mastered the striker and the mk14 in that match and got promoted. It was like I had my own band following me around playing dramatically over the top music for ages.
I had to completely stop playing while it was all happening.

That would be a hilarious death streak:

REVENGE
The person who killed you last is followed by a matching band until you catch him and take revenge

South American players get a mariachi band, Asian players get a full Chinese new year band with big dragon, goths get a death metal band etc etc

Ha ha
