Why does everyone hate 'campers'??

Must point out that this is in no way meant to antagonise anyone, but just wondering why the majority of players are against other players 'camping'?

I played a cagematch earlier on (CoD4) and the other guy sent me an arsey message accusing me of camping and not playing the game properly.......I only stopped to catch my breath and he just came round the corner at me lol!

I find the multiplayer great even though I'm nothing more than a bullet magnet most of the time, but I prefer to play the game by getting killed as few times as I can.....the headless chicken I don't get/am not fast enough to play! The stealthy approach appeals to me, though am quite happy to run around and be target practise if it makes people feel better!

Any thoughts?

PS. When playing split screen 2 player, is there a way to turn the map/radar off??

I don't mind campers myself, i mean in real war you're not going to run round like a headless chicken.

I camp every now and then, i mix it up a bit really. Campers are quite easy to take out though, u know roughly where they are lol

Campers are as much a part of the game as running and gunning.

I guess we play the style we are most comfortable with.
Sometimes i'll sit and snipe people, other times i'll pick up a rifle and run like my legs are on fire, however i'm not great at either method.

Warfare is about winning, doesn't matter how you do it....especially if you are after a few cheap kills, it all adds up to the value of victory.

I think I get wound up by them as I run around the map alot. I've netted over 140 accolades for most distance travelled!

Its just annoying when you are hunting someone, you usually run into some **** who is in the darkest alleyway or bush and you can't see them for toffee.

People don't like campers because they get killed by them

I got shouted at yesterday for playing "Serious", it was Demolition and all I did was scope down my rifle as I started to turn a corner, some people just shouldn't be allowed to mix with the public, online or in person

Have noticed that people seem to be getting a lot more wound-up playing on-line MW2 than they did with COD4-MW1 and COD5-WAW. I've already had several abusive messages from anonymous idiots after playing less than 10 hours, whereas I didn't receive any whilst playing the previous versions through to prestige 10. Either the hype surrounding this game has attracted people who really don't have the necessary attitude and patience, or there is something about the MW2 game/maps that is triggering the worst in people. It's only a game ***.

I got really angry the other day at someone who killed me a couple of times when s/he was camping, I was swearing under my breath, the whole trip. However, I know it's entirely my fault if I get killed by a camper more than once, probably because I was just running around, not looking carefully enough etc.

I think this is why people get so angry at campers, because they're such easy targets but they get so many kills! And it's easier to get angry at someone far, far away than admitting it's your fault and you should have been a bit more careful!

Just my view though (hope I haven't wound anyone up or offended anyone), I've not been online long and don't have the same experiences as many do on here!

Why do I hate campers?

Because they ruin the game for me and make the game boring as hell.

Let's imagine this yeah, a match full of campers, all waiting in their corners, who the hell are they gonna shoot?!

The thing is though now if anyone stays still for more than 10 seconds they are called a camper.

A camper to me isn't someone that sees an enemy and amybe gets behind cover utnil they come and blasts them in the face.

A camper to me is like someone on highrise that gets on the crane, and stays there the whole match pointing their cursor in the same spot.

Or someone who goes in a room for the whole match with their gun pointed in the same spot.

Anyway this thread seems like a place where all the campers can get it off their chest and reassure themselves that it's ok to camp.

You guys can do what you like, it's up to you.

If you find sitting in a dark room for 15 minutes with your gun pointed at the door fun then knock yourselves out.

Oh and before someone says run and gunning takes no skill blah blah, a guy off the fourms got 44kills and 1 death earlier tonight, and he doesn't camp.

Nice generalistaion there, I don't give a damn about getting killed, I've had a 37 kill deathstreak.

It seems only you campers care about dying and kill death ratio.

No you don't, you probably sit in a dark corner with your gun pointed in the same spot so you don't mess up your kill death ratio.

I tell you what, when having a decent kill death ratio equals prizes I'll stay in a damn bush for the whole game.

But for the minute, it's only a worthless stat that no one gives a rats ass about.

I find it hilarious when a camper obviously has no plan B, but when they're playing a team who don't communicate they often don't need it.

I remember on the Hangar map in COD WAW, a guy continually lying face down at the top of the stairs by the larger entrance to the hangar.

He killed me twice early as the first time I was oblivious and the second time I was useless and didn't get my shot off early enough.

I ended up killing him 9 times to those 2. Simply because he refused to believe his camping spot wasn't working and had no plan B.

5 of those kills were noob tubes too, intentionally just to annoy him! He called me everything under the sun in the lobby regarding my noob tubing antics, I told him I'd refuse to acknowledge him until he referred to the tube under its correct title. The Anti Camping Grenade.

Since the PS3 is at a more accessible price point now, I'm suspecting PSN is attracting more and more kiddie winks.

Online gaming is ruining for me now TBH.

I dont camp. I have an atrocious kill/death ration but that's ok. I don't feel the need to neglect my team mates to get to 1.8457 or whatever the Campers are aiming for these days. I play for fun. Plus my missus says I am "above average" and I have two healthy beautiful kids so I know my equipment works, I don't need to compensate for anything.

Sitting in a corner waiting for someone to run past takes some amount of skill doesnt it ??, it isnt "part of the game" unless your covering a flag, HQ etc etc. I normally play HQ and it is infested with retards who run off at the go and sit on the opposite side of the map and stay there wherever the HQ is. You can see them once you have died (in trying to take the HQ) waiting for someone to run into the gap they are covering miles away from the HQ. It seems to escape these brain donors that they are not there. They are taking the HQ they are supposed to be protecting. They only do it to leech XP of others who ARE playing a TEAM game.

Last night I made a Camper cry. I followed him round taking potshots at him, then finally hit him with a flashbang and lobbed a semtex at him. He sent me a message whining and crying.

My reply .. "I hate Campers. For me this is all part of the game" ..

I think the current crop of maps lend themselves so well to camping. The detail in the maps coupled with the fact we don't know them inside out yet means the R&G crowd come off worse. Personally as a R&G'er I need to adapt the way I play and flash bang rooms and corners and be wary of choke points and elevated positions. After all the campers are heading to the same spots every time so their predictable style of play should ultimately be their downfall. We are only 2 weeks into the game so I do think there will be a shift once players suss out the spots campers head straight for. Also its worth waiting to see if the next map pack brings a little balance to the variety. ATM the moment it feels like there are too many larger intricate maps.

Bring out a map the same size as shipment, with no debri in the middle. Just one massive open square field.

Then lets see them camp

We coukld have variation in the maps, we could have a grass one, a sand one, even a tarmac one like a playground.

it all depends on the situation.

for instance...

i play mainly S&D, and in that i take a more careful approach as you only have 1 life so it needs looking after, i often find myself the last man against 3 or 4 coz the ****wits in my team just go running off and get snipered!! that often leads me to camping to draw the oppo team out to try and win the objective. if there are a few of my mates on then we end up playing TDM and i play that running and gunning.

but again if i find we are taking a battering then its time to get a bit cautious abd maybe do some camping.

its basic rules which i would expect most people to do. i am a team player and always try to win the game over my own stats.

Ditto what Hakagure said but, S&D is worst when there are campers playing - which there usually is...cue this scenario...

"Last Man alive" with a minute to go and some guy/girls camping in a 2nd storey building not even trying to get to either of the bombsites, then they finally realise with 15s to go that maybe they should move, they maybe manage to kill the 1/2 players guarding but, then only have 2s to plant the bomb, well done Team Player!

I sharpen my knife for campers, thats all they deserve.

I try to mix it up as much as I can but I prefer to move to a location, look around for a victim, miss them, run some where nearby to look for another victim, see one then get shot by someone else.
I have created a class specifically for run'n'gun (can you guess what I called it...?) to encourage me to do it because I want to do the challenges, or more importantly, get the attachments.

I would say I am 65% sniper (ok, camper) 35% run'n'gunner. And if anyone doesn't like it, tough. I'll see you on the battlefield. When I view my Killcam.

Stop whining guys just play the game. I camp and run & gun depends what the situation in the game is and not bothered what my score or k/d ratio is, some people need to stop taking the 'GAME' so seriously.

The only time I get annoyed with the game is Spec Ops on veteran and when I first started playing it multiplayer. I didn't know any of the maps properly and would get killed by a camper, respawn and then get killed by the same bloody camper in the same location. This would happen three of four times. I think subconsciously I was magnetised to the camper, thus resulting in me always running to the location where the camper killed me.......and getting killed again.

I don't really have a problem with people who camp....in fact, what is the definition of camping? How long do you have to stay in a static location to be classed as camping?
