Just looking for confirmation really that online provate matches do not give XP points? I note that Lan or split-screen would? Any idea why this discrepancy?

No XP. It's presumably to stop people ranking & unlocking perks, attachment etc without the effort of playing against randoms.

IE- get a mate or mates to stand there whilst you headshot them all .....

Private online matches use your rank/unlocks etc from your online profile but dont affect your stats or earn you xp. Offline (splitscreen or Lan) has a seperate (but identical) ranking system to online so you can rank up offline but it won't affect your online stats and vice versa. In offline there's an option to use online unlocks too (ie classes you've created online) although when you do this you won't earn offline xp.
