Re: Your NAT Type

Mine is OPEN.

When you do a connection type test on your PS3 under settings, what does your NAT type report to be?

Mine is NAT type 2 (recommended) and my PS3 is in a DMZ on my router.

Yeah mines the same...Its all to do with what ports you have open on your router...If you want to open ports for the game/PSN try here - PortForward.com - ReplaceTitle

And if you want to put your PS3 into DMZ then look here - GUIDE: PUT YOUR PS3 IN A DMZ

Re: Your NAT Type

NATS type as COD refers to it. I looked this up and there is some sliding rule whereby strict means you can only connect up with other players of (if I remember right) the same type, Medium meant you could connect to other medium types and strict, open connect with all.

it was something like that, since I moved my PS3 in to my DMZ ive got 'open' all the time (see my other post in the laggers guid thread)

Has one been placed in DMZ mode and the other hasn't? Half of the work to put your PS3 in DMZ mode is done on the PS3 aswell as the router!

That's an odd one.

If I were you I'd write down the settings on the wireless one and see if all of them match the wired one (not the bits to do with wired/wireless obviously).

Maybe one have UPnP on and the other off or some other difference?

Although Bens advice also sounds like a plan!

Re: Your NAT Type

i'm finding it hard to get a definitive answer on how to configure these things but my experience is that my wifi connected PS3 went from open to strict over a number of COD updates/releases/patches. since I put the IP address (multiple PS3's on the same network would have different IP addresses) in to the DMZ on the router it has stayed 'open' and online performance has been better (dare I say near full green).

Bit of trial and error I'm afraid (I have a netgear router by the way)

Re: Your NAT Type

Mine is "open" - I'm guessing MW2 tries different port combinations to connect to the Matchmaker/IWNET when you start MP and makes a decision based on that. In theory it shouldn't make any difference to how the game works.

I never changed or port forwarded anything. My PS3 isn't in DMZ but mine always says OPEN so I'm happy.

Sorry mate but that's just not true, i've played MW2 with mates on different NAT types no probs

For what it's worth mine is on Moderate and I have two routers in place (one of which is doing traffic shaping/QoS to prioritise my gaming packets).

Re: Your NAT Type

When the psn error message came up in the summer (I think?) I vaguely remember looking up the ps3 internet connection settings on here and saw the following:
address settings on manual
primary dns ending in 222 and the secondary dns ending in 220
mtu automatic
proxy server do not use
UPnP disabled
nat type was set to type 2

After using those settings I didn't seem to have any problems, until the lag-fest special ops but v1.04 seems to have put paid to that. I have noticed that on zombies when one particular friend "hosts" his mate can't hear me. Unless it's selective hearing

Re: Your NAT Type

Mines Nat type 2 on the ps3. then open Nat in game with my I.S.P,s servers and i get dropouts(i think thats the I.S.P,s fault not the games) i get moderate Nat type when using opendns servers. I have upnp disabled on the ps3 and no ports forwarded and no DMZ setup on the router.

This page from Microsoft explains it, this relates to the 360 but I imagine it's the same for the PS3.

Or for lazy people that can't be bother to click & search:

Quote:
<H3 id=tocHeadRef>Three types of NAT issues that can occur

Open: This means that you router has optimal settings, and you should not run into any of the issues described in this article.

Moderate: This means that you can talk to other players who have open or moderate NAT issues, but you cannot talk or play with users who have strict NAT issues.

Strict: This means that you can talk only to other players, but you cannot talk to players who have moderate or strict NAT issues.
