Dirty Rotten Laggers

Thus far MW2 is absolutely BRILLIANT and I can't get enough of the online multiplayer. However, over the past two days there has been an awful lot more people blatantly lag switching. I've seen as many laggers here in a couple days than what I came across in World at War in over 12 months.

You know the type, teleporting all over the place, knife to the face before you even see anything, 1on1 only for the lagger to teleport & cap you in the ar**.

Anyone else?

Its some home made device which you add a button onto your controller with masking tape! There's plenty of vids on youtube showing you how to do it and also on eBay where you can buy said switch! Pathetic really!

Note to self - must check out the lag switch on youtube, as it will help me rank up quicker.

Re: Dirty Rotten Laggers

in a game of HQ last night with AVF'ers and everyone had 1 orange bar except the host who had 4 green bars.

He had a slight advantage

But, maybe by coincedence, after I had pointed this out - in my usual, quiet and restrained manner - we all went back up to green bars.

probably not a lag switch and just the servers going fubar

Re: Dirty Rotten Laggers

I can't believe the little ****ers would do this, whats the point of playing if you need to cheat in this way? Pretty sure I've experienced this, some chump kept freezing and then stabbing me, even though I'd offloaded enough rounds into him. I put it down to server issues, but I'm not so sure now...

Here's a demo of what lag switching can do. It's on World at War:-

FYI
Lag switches are normally used by unscrupulous players wanting to cheat at online video games. Lag switches are unrelated to normal network switches. Design of a Lag SwitchThe basic lag switch design is a small Ethernet device where either the orange or green wire of a CAT5 cable has been spliced to a push button or other physical switch. This hardware is connected between the game device (PC or console) and the home network router (or modem if no router exists). Operation of a Lag SwitchWhen the switch is activated, the device is designed to function for a few seconds on a timer, effectively blocking all network traffic between the local game device and the Internet temporarily. Used during gameplay, the device causes the person using a lag switch to appear to opponents as frozen while in fact they are still able to play locally and gain advantages in the game.

Re: Dirty Rotten Laggers

I can't say I understand - if the game temporarily has blocked access to the servers then how can the lagger see where you are? Won't you be "frozen" to them?

Thats it matey. You simply freeze so that they can have their way with you. similarly, the lagger appears to you as either frozen or teleporting or you simply do not see them. Either way whilst this is happening, they are free to run about as normal.

Re: Dirty Rotten Laggers

Ah I see, ok, its a two way thing, that makes sense.

I suppose it'd be something like this then;

lagger sees some one, press the switch, run to the side while the person is shooting at their frozen body, switch off, laggers see them 'live' probably still facing where laggers frozen body was and shoots them. Sounds like tonnes of fun to me, how sad.

There's quite a difference between unintentional lag and the utilisation of a lag switch and it is quite obvious when it is the latter.

I would have thought it's more about getting satisfaction from winding people up.
