Chromapure UK - Home is proud to bring to the UK – Chromapure.

Chromapure is calibration-based software that is used with a variety of X-Rite Meters to aid in the calibration of displays, i.e. Projectors, Plasmas, CRTs etc.

The software has been designed to be logical, and easy to follow as can be seen from the following screenshots and demos. The demos, and help options in the software are designed to make the software very easy to use, but email support will also be provided.

A review of the software can be found here & here (the last link includes a comparison to HCFR, and Calman)

& some feedback on the software can be found here & here.

Re: Chromapure Powerbuy

Software revisions

Version 1.2 (released 23 Dec 09)

New Features
Support for automation with the Accupel (HDG-3000/HDG-4000) external
signal generator
Support for automation with the PC's video card
Support for integrated reporting (Excel no longer required)
Support for the Klein K-10 non-contact professional colorimeter
Support for 15% and 95% levels in gamma module for use with JVC projectors
Support for 64-bit operating systems

Cosmetic Enhancements
Grayscale and Color Gamut modules now display the dE method selected in
the Options module

Bug Fixes
We have fixed an issue that arose when changing Options or importing a
session file. Previously, the new data would only appear after closing
and then reopening a module. Now the data automatically refreshes.
We have removed the .cal session file format and replaced it with a
..calx XML format instead, which is more reliable, scalable, and can be
opened by the user as a text file.

Version 2 - Released September 2010

New Features
•A new Contrast module for measuring on/off and checkerboard contrast
•A new Advanced Color Management module for measuring color at different levels of saturation and amplitude
•A new Data Conversion module for converting xyY into a variety of other formats
•A new option for grayscale/gamma readings in 5% increments
•Support for the Spyder3 colorimeter
•Support for the DVDO Duo video processor as a signal generator
•Support for the Lumagen Radiance video processor as a signal generator
•ChromaPure now comes in two versions—Standard (£81.25) and Professional (£500). The differences between the two versions are:
◦The Professional version supports high-end color analyzers, including:
- Minolta CS-200 colorimeter
- Photo Research PR-655/670 spectroradiometer
- Orb Optronics SP100/JETI Specbos 1201 spectroradiometer
- JETI Specbos 1211 spectroradiometer
- Klein K-10 colorimeter (no longer supported in the Standard Version)
- X-Rite Hubble/Sencore OTC-1000 colorimeter (no longer supported in the
Standard Version)
◦The Professional version also supports high-end signal generators, including:
- Sencore VP40x
- Quantum Data 780
- Accupel HDG-3000/4000 (no longer supported in the Standard Version)
◦The Professional version includes licensing for professional use (no longer supported in the Standard Version)
◦The Professional version includes licensing for an unlimited number of meters
◦The Professional version includes support for individually customized Excel-based reports
◦The Professional version includes licensing for Duo/Radiance auto-calibrate when available (will also be available in the Standard version as an optional add-on)

Enhanced Features
•Users can now click File, New Session to clear out all existing data and start a new calibration session. The active meter connection remains.
•The Raw Data module now includes an option for data export to cvs file.
•Gamma module now includes RGB data.
•The Color Management module now includes support for 3 color spaces: HSL, RGB, and xyY.
•The Grayscale and Color Gamut modules now allow user to select any reading at any time. Auto-advance is maintained.
•The Reports module brings back support for Excel-based reports. Integrated reports are maintained.

Bug Fixes
•There was a bug that resulted in unpredictable results and instability with the French character set. This has been fixed.
•There was a bug with the X-Rite Hubble in which it would read only fL. It now reports luminance in fL and cd/m2 correctly.
•Because of the placement of the OK and Cancel buttons on the Options window, they would not appear when using some some video cards. This has been fixed.

The upgrade policy can be found here

There are some useful demo 'videos' that show how things would look on screen while you make various measurements and adjustments.

The only issues I've seen so far are (and I'm sure Ricky will correct me if I'm wrong) that you seem to have to display the test patterns in reverse ie 100 IRE down to 0 IRE, which is the opposite way to my test disc(s), but not insumountable.
Are you able to explain this point further I am not sure if I follow. Presuming we are talking about the grayscale, the measurements (via Chromapure) start at 0% (black), and move through the range to 100% (white), which appear to be the opposite to what you are suggesting in your response above. Is it the disc that has it the other way around? If so what disc/patterns are you using.

CIE 2000 is also available since the 1.1 update.

Hello again Ricky. The demo I saw with the reverse patterns was the gamma adjustment process. The greyscale routine is in the 'correct' order (for my test discs anyway, AVS709 and DVE HD). This really isn't too much of an issue as I tend to manually move through the chapters, so it's just a matter of having my thumb over the back skip rather than the forward.

I'm not concerned with CIE 2000 too much (seems more the textile industry rather than use videophiles), but the CIE 1994 will do nicely for me, which I found was in the options (the demos really helped here BTW). It looks so much easier to follow the colour gamut compared to my existing software. I think I'll even revisit adjusting my TV if I buy this package as my HDQ will allow some adjustment. More concerned with trying to nail my greyscale and gamma using the built in controls in my HD350, before I adjust the gamut using an external CMS and I think this software will really help me on that score.

Ok, I am with you now. A 34hr door to door trip from Aus at the weekend is still taking it's toll at the mo. Am getting there slowly though I note your point on the gamma measurements, and will raise it with the developers of the software, as they are always eager to hear customer/potential customer feedback.

It's funny you mention about your TV. The first screen I used this package was my old philips crt in the living room, and whilst the calibration was not perfect (lack of controls on the TV). I was sitting watching sky last night thinking how good the pic was months after I ran the initial calibration.

Like you I have HDP that I use with a pioneer 9000FD (HD100) Clone. I have also recently invested in a DVDO edge, and am looking into the CMS solutions, so am pretty much in the same situation as you.

From memory you use an i1LT or D2? I have used a LT with this software and it worked very well. I now use a Chroma 5 for most of my calibrations.

This software is designed to be as user friendly as possible, yet covering the bases required for an accurate calibration. Also I have got to say that the continuous function, really is useful. And there other little points that make it easy to use, i.e. time since the last dark reading (bottom right of the screen).

Before I invested in this software personally, I was a Calman Enthusiast user (I still have the software and license), but liked the look of this software. After use, I appreciated it even more, so much so that I have invested some of my personal time and monies to sign an agreement (with the US developers) to bring this software/meter bundles to the UK, as I think this could be a really popular calibration tool for beginners, and advanced users alike.

Let me know if there are any other questions.

Ricky

I got the i1-LT package, which I thought was the same sensor as the D2, but maybe not since you asked the question.

I'm getting the VideoEQ CMS box, hence the need for something easier to use than my existing software for colour gamut work. Had the software been a download, I'd probably have ordered it today as I'm going to be stuck in a hotel for the next couple of nights and it would releave the boredom if I could practice. After that I'm going to be a bit busy, so I won't have chance for a week or two, so I'll do some reading up in the hotel (it has Wifi at least ) and come back to you after.

I presume that if ordered before 31 Dec I'll need the software licence for one meter at £115?

EDIT: I think the gamma maybe has to be done in that 'reverse' order anyway, so maybe not something to worry over?

They are the same meter, I didn't mean to question whether you use the LT or the D2, but rather whether it was something else.

The software, if bought on it's own, is a download It only comes on disc, if bought with a meter Sorry if that was not clear. I will not be able to 'unlock' the software until I have the serial number for your meter though(along with the payment).

Speak to you soon, and yes the £115 price is correct.

Ricky

Anyone using this with a HD350? I am very interested but am wondering about the benefits due to the lack of CME in the 350; also how easy is this to use?

I posted my thoughts in general on Chromapure in this thread:

Chromapure experiences.

There is little that you can do with regard to the colour gamut, though it will help you to optimise your settings. Mine are 'corrected' using my Lumagen HDQ, though I'm planing on getting an external CMS box soon. I have found that getting the greyscale and gamma set correctly on my TV has helped improve the image (it too has a wide colour gamut), so not all bad news.

I'm planing on using Chromapure one evening during the Christmas break to redo my HD350 as it's been a while: You can also create an offset to use the sensor facing the projector with the diffuser fitted, for better low IRE results.

Chromapure

Hi Inzaman. I purchased this package to calibrate my 350. I had very little knowledge of calibrating except the very basics, and I mean the basics, so it has been a steep learning curve for me, but the support from RickyJ 'Chromapure' has been second to none, his still in contact with me and is awaiting a set of test results 'without the CMS' so he can point me in the right direction if needed. The improvement I have seen in my picture so far is good, and I know will get better.
And is it easy to use, I would have to say yes it is, just like anything new it's a little daunting at first. It's given me a better understanding of the whole calibration thing, so I'm happy.
I'd recommend it.

Until the end of February 2010, we are running a special discounted price on a 1 meter software licence. Instead of the usual price of £120, we are charging £90. Hurry this offer will only last until the end of February.

As an extra incentive the next 2 people to place their order via the forums, will receive a £15 discount on the £90, meaning that they will only pay £75. Please note that there will only be two licences available at this price, and they are only applicable to the single meter licence.

EDIT: the 2 special price licences, have been sold now, but the discounted sale price of £90 will continue until the end of February.

I'll take one of those 2

Looking for a meter too - what's the main difference between the L2 and the D2 ?

Back to the difference between the i1LT and D2.

The most important information to yourself is that the meter in the package is exactly the same.

The main differences are with the software supplied. D2 and the LT share the same software, but the D2 has extra (unlocked) features. These features can be unlocked at a later stage by buying a code (if required). The additional (advanced) features include manual control over items like brightness, contrast etc, and the ability to set profiling options on monitors.

The other main difference, is that the i1D2 comes with a voucher that allows you to get a discount if you decide to upgrade to the i1pro (from approved dealers) at a later stage (strictly speaking within 6 months of the i1D2 purchase, but there has been some flexibility in this timescale in the past).

Currently we have the i1LT in stock, and can do that with (the special price) software, and delivery for £187 inc special delivery. We do not have the D2 in stock at this time.

I see that the latest version info mentions now working on 64bit systems, but could you just confirm that it has been used on Win 7 64bit and that it works OK. If so I'd like to order the Xrite i1LT inc software package.
Thanks

Actually I've just realised it's cheaper to buy the software and meter seperately, so I'll go for that please.

Sorry oversight on my part. Had forgotten to reduce the package price during the license special offer. Will do the package for £215 inc special delivery, so a small saving over the individual prices.

Will send you a PM to conclude.

Peter

I can't see a problem with that. I will send you an invoice that will be in GBP, but you can pay by Credit card etc, so apart from you (possibly) being subject to some translation costs, I can't see that being a problem.

If you could PM me with your email address, I will send over the invoice via email.

Kind regards

Ricky

Overall pricing structure overhaul per the first thread.

Also, details of *enhanced* meters (coming soon) added to the first thread.
