VGA To Yprpb - No signal issue

Hi All,

Firstly, sorry if this is posted elsewhere but I cannot find it after many a search.

Right, I am wanting to set my Emachines netbook up to my Alba HDTV. The only way to do this with the ports on both machines is a VGA to Yprpb, now I have connected the same netbook to my LG TV via a VGA to VGA and all was fine but this is the first time I have had to use a Yprpb.

I have the correct cable (see attachment) and have plugged both end in, then I have switched the TV to the correct input channel but there is no signal. The screen on the netbook changes(gets smaller) which to me indicates that the netbook is doing its bit right but I cannot work out the problem.

Is there anything else I should be doing???

Many many thanks in advance

The cable ‘may’ be correct if your Source can be set to Output a YPbPr ‘Component’ signal via its HD15 (VGA) port!

Otherwise you will require an active Converter to convert RGHBV (VGA) to YPbPr plus set your Source to a Resolution and Refresh rate (1080p60, 720p60, 1080i60 etc.) the TV supports via its 3RCA ‘Component’ Input!

There are low cost devices which will give you an image – though usually pretty poor quality! A half decent converter will cost 150.00 GBP+

CYP Europe - SY-P291 PC/HD to PC/HD Scaler Converter

A New TV with VGA or Component Input may be a better/more cost effective option!

So basically, no then ha ha ha.

It sounds like either way the picture isn't going to be good, so out of all the research I have done I am down to the following options -
  • Buy a new tele with more options/ports
  • Buy an expensive convertor and risk a poor picture
  • Buy a cheap(er) VGA to HDMI convertor and have do with the poor picture
  • Pay Sky for multi room as I wanted to hook up my Sky Go upstairs !!

Unless there are any other simpler options that i've missed.

But many thanks for your help.

Lee

Hi Lee

I went for the short answer on one post yesterday and got it in the ear for being too short hand

We supply lots of converter options to clients with 'legacy' Display devices but when the Display is relatively small/low cost it’s often better to simply replace it with a unit that has the required Inputs!
