Sky TV but no Terrestrial?

Hi all, was wondering for a bit of help.

We have Sky+HD in the lounge so obviously only use sattelite TV in there, however for the other TV's in the house, we can only pick up one channel (and that is the Sky feed).

We quite simply cannot pick up any terrestrial feed.

My son bought himself a freeview box the other week, whether or not the box was duff I don't know, but it quite simply picked up nothing!

Just bought a new slimline TV for another room with built in freeview we were hoping to use but it's not picking up anything but the Sky feed.

Btw, we don't have multiroom, does anyone know what I need to do to get terrestrial back, and can bedrooms for example use freeview when the house has SkyTV?

Thanks in advance.

Gill

Re: Sky TV but no Terrestrial?

freeview uses dvb t wheres sky is sattellite so its dvb s basically to get terrestrial you'd need to use an external aerial (such as the ones you see on peoples rooofs) alternitively you could install a quad or even octo lnb on your dish this would enable you to run extra feeds from your dish to the other tv's then you'd need a freesat box and that would give you free digital tv so you'd get your 1 to 5 channels plus a lot more!

Well, if you can't pick up a terrestrial feed, you ain't going to get Freeview. Cos Freeview is only accessible from a terrestrial feed - i.e. a TV aerial.

Re: Sky TV but no Terrestrial?

I get asked this quite a lot from people at work. Just because I am into amateur radio they think I am some sort of expert/guru lol. As mentioned above a lot of people by a cheap freeview box and then wonder why they have little or no success. It usually turns out to be because they have either no antenna or a little cheapie antenna which will work fine if you live near a transmitter.

A decent antenna is usually a must and preferably mounted in free space, i.e. outside. Sure, you can use them indoors, or even in loft space but compromise must be expected.

Re: Sky TV but no Terrestrial?

your best way round it is if you already have the sky channel fed to your other tv s , is to make sure in your lounge that the aerial is plugged into the rf input on the hd box (some times sky just plugg it straight into your tv), or if you dont have an aerial get one fitted , this will give you tv channels and also the freeview signal needed if you intend to add freeview boxes in the other room s
