Revised title: Whats the future of tiscali tv?

This was originally a very negative post about the possibility of TTV ending as it has in italy.

Nothing has happened and I fear my thread was simply acting as a deterrent to people signing up to the service which is the last thing tiscali need.

I think TTV is now here to stay and I would think it will eventually be bought out.

Re: Is it the end for Tiscali TV?

I hope its not the end as I was just about to upgrade my tiscali tv to tiscali tv+. As I have just canceled Sky so need a recorder and the TTV+ box would do, but I dont really want to pay out £50 for a box that isnt great but would do as it does extra channels.
Also Tiscali is cheap I have just costed up a minimum package from Sky to get Broadband, and phone but you have to have a £16.50 package. So it works out at over £40 a month and wee only pay tiscali £25! So its great value.

Well since I started this thread I have spoken to tiscali who assure me they have no plans to end the tv service and they are still accepting sign ups for it.

They are to announce their business plan for the UK in the next few weeks. When I see it I will post it here.

Personally I now think the TV service here will stay. I think it failed in italy simply because they couldnt get any sky italia content, whereas in this country they actually have the basic sky package cheaper than sky.

I love this service. It beats SKY hands down. I would go for it, you have nothing to lose.

Re: Is it the end for Tiscali TV?

Tiscali want to sell TTV to sky for £600 million (hardly turkey feed) Sky have offered only £260 million (Again hardly chicken feed). Its now a face-off to see if Tiscali are forced into the sale or another Bidder comes in.
Sky is the best fit, but 1.5 million subscribers is not to be sniffed at, and it would be a great way for some other entity to enter the Consumer subscriber Tv market. I personally wouldn't mind Sky winning (good CS, Bad prices), Bt would be bad as their Home Hub appears to be a complete Rip-off. Others include Orange and far fetched bidders are Canal+ .Microsoft, Google or some Chinese outfit.
What's needed is some sort of Hd offering along with Bigger, Fatter Box's. Maybe BBC enterprise should take it over?? or Sony? (could replace existing Plus Box with a 500Gb PS3 AND reduce prices)
I don't see why JK Rowling shouldn't take it over..HPTV .. winner

Re: Is it the end for Tiscali TV?

Well I hope it isn't SKY or VM or BT lets keep them independent to keep the pressure on prises in the downward direction. A management buyout would be best for the consumer as they would probably keep the same pricing model. Just if one of the tight Banks will fund it?
