I have the Tiscali+ Service (PVR)

Fortunately for me, I have been put on the Tiscali+ Trials Team. As a result, I have just had the new pvr service installed.

Points worth making:

1. The picture quality has improved - still needs work though.

2. You can record up to 3 channels at once as well as watch a 4th. Twice as many as with Sky+.

3. You need a terrestrial aerial and DTT scanning enabled for the Tiscali+ service to work properly.

4. The box is very noisy. Makes a constant low hum like a hoover.

5. The hardware is easy to use and not dissimilar to Sky+.

6. The box is jet black with a large green light on it. Looks more like the old Homechoice box in terms of design.

7. It is not HD but has an HDMI output, which I am using. I am not sure if this means that the box is capable of outputting HD or not. I would be impressed if it is upgradeable for when they starting broadcasting HD content.

8. The EPG is the same as the previous version in terms of layout apart from it has 'Tiscali+ Library' in the 'My TV' section. It is also slightly quicker than the old EPG which is a blessing.

I'm sure you will have questions about things I've forgotten. Fire away.

Could you post some pictures of the box?

When i was using HDMI with the telsey box, I was seeing a very small window of video on the TV Guide (top left). Is this corrected on the new box?

I hope to god its faster for me too, I hate that about the Telsey.

I am being installed on Tuesday so I guess I will find out!!

Yeah, we had an (another) engineer round last week to deal with our issues. Said PVR box was due for release last week but had been put back a couple of weeks, now you say it's only in the testing period?? What a blow.

I also asked the engineer (who seemed to know what he was talking about for once) about the HDMI output of the boxes and he said not to expect an HD for at least a year or so.

Anyway gonna call TTV this afternoon see if I can get on this trial.

I will get a pic tonight on the box. It is literally matt black with a 3cm squared green light on it... The style is the same as the original Homechoice silver unit.

Yes, the small window of video is still there with the HDMI output. That is the only problem with it as far as I can see.

Slightly faster yes, but don't get too excited!

Are you on the trials team too? That's great. i think there are about 50 of us.

Re: I have the Tiscali+ Service (PVR)

Well I spoke to the chumps at the call centre and after the usual speech (doesn't exist, never heard of it, anyone says otherwise is lying) I informed them of its existance. 5 minutes on hold later they came back to me and said that anyone can get the box right away (for £50) as long as they're on a Tiscali contract. Unfortunately I migrated from Homechoice so I have to switch contracts, hopefully it shouldn't take too long before I get some sweet PVR action

I hope it is faster, one of the things that drives me mad about the whole system is how sluggish the menus seem compared to Sky.
