Smile Considering joining Tiscali TV

Hello all,

I have a few questions about Tiscali TV that I'm hoping some of you out there will be able to answer for me:

1/ Has anyone had a recent installation of Tiscali TV and do you know which set top box they are using?
2/ Can I control the STB from another room and watch TV (like Sky's multilink thingy)? If not, do you have an alternative?
3/ Does Tiscali offer a TV via PC service, where I can sign in and watch my TV channels anywhere?

It's the second question thats most important, as we use the multilink quite alot, and I want to make sure we still have this feature if and when we decide to cut over...

Thanks, everyone!
Gene

Re: Considering joining Tiscali TV

I've had a right mare with Tiscali recently...

They were talking about multiple STBs and slave boxes in other rooms and there's an RJ45 connector on the back for it, but they never took it any further. So for now you'd need an enormous scart cable. one STB outputed to one telly.

Personally I wouldn't touch 'em with a bargepoll

thats far from a nighmere matey, try being capped by virgin to 512 kps because you downloaded a "huge" 16 gig last month so my 8 meg has gone to 512 has been there for 2 weeks and will stay there till im out of the "list".

I have a couple of questions regarding tiscali tv please..

Does the box come with a HDD ? so you can record the tv direct to it?

if i get this package it will be used in my bedroom (not main tv) is that a problem?

According to there customer service the average person on the 8meg line is getting 5-6 meg is that true ?

How much does the speed slow down by when the box is in use?

They say they dont want any downloads after 6pm, is this all night ?

Cheers Guys

Leigh.

Re: Considering joining Tiscali TV

Hi

I have been a Homechoice/Tiscali customer for about a year and i find the service great, thats not to say that if I could get cable I would have tiscali but as it happens i cant get cable or sky so tiscali was my only option.
You can not get a hd box yet only certain peeps have them as they are still on trial.
Multi room is a no no, if you want it you need a second phone line and whole new contract with tiscali ( I no I tried)
The broadband is v good (for me) it never drops below 4 meg (although I pay for UPTO 8 lol it usally sits at 6 meg which is fast enough for the 3 quid they charge onto of the service.
On the 8 meg BB I dont notice any real slow down when watching vod but I did used to get a lot of slow down when I was on 2 meg.
I download about 30 to 60 gig a month and have never had a cap for it.

The tv service is good and the VOD uis a great idea and gets updates reguarly the only downside is the pic quality on some of the channels as it can be a bit below average but they say they have HD comming soon .
Yet to see that though.

I download all night long most nights and have no issuse.

Hope this is of use to you please dont think I am a tiscali fan boy its just that I dont have the choice of anything else so for me its a god send and tbh most tiscali customers are in the same boat as myself and dont have the choice.

Cheers Darko

Well I'm getting it next week - but I took it because I was on 2Mbs, phone call & line rental for 30 quid and tis will be faster - getting just over 5mbs this first week - plus the TV for 6 quid less.

I take it that the TV downloads don't count as part of your Internet useage.

Cheers, Dave C.

Re: Considering joining Tiscali TV

it seems to slow down when use the vod but not enough to matter, I really would recommend the music package for a fiver you get 1000s of vids and you can make playlists of your choosing it really is a clever idea.

Re: Considering joining Tiscali TV

Been with TTV for 2.5 years and though the service was initially good, they've been an absolute nightmare lately. 2 months ago our TV service suddenly stopped working, freezing on the initial countdown screen. We rang the help desk but were told it would be at least 10 days before an engineer could arrive but as we were going on holiday the next week we declined, deciding to wait until we got back. We called them up a month ago now and despite sending an engineer who tried changing both the set-top box and the router (to no avail) they couldn't figure out the problem.

The problem has been referred to "tier 2" for over a month now and despite my repeated calls and promises from them to call me back, we have been completely ignored and fobbed off with "they'll get back to us when they have a solution".

To make matters worse, last week a phone operative made us run several resets on the router in an attempt to get the TV service back up, and as a result the broadband (which had been fine throughout) has now stopped working. Despite a 1 hour phone call to the tech support team they didn't have a clue what was wrong with the broadband and are now suggesting to send out yet another engineer. I'm really sick and tired of the whole situation and gladly would have got Sky a long time ago if it wasn't for the freeholder refusing permission to have a dish put up

Long story short: I simply would not recommend TTV to anyone under any circumstances.
