Will HD ever reach Tiscali TV?

Is there any chance of there being some kind of HD service on Tiscali TV? I've been with them under their various guises for the last 4 years and Sky's Xmas offer is becoming seriously tempting. HD was promised over 2 years ago and has yet to arrive. The lack of new channels and high-def has become very annoying and the absence of information has left me thinking that I'll have to leave.

There was a report recently in which a tiscali head honcho was saying that they intend to start an overnight download service of HD content. No idea when but I suspect it is on the horizon given that the box is HD enabled, there has just been a new HD epg update, and there is half of the hard drive partitioned for such a service.

The problem with tiscali and HD is that the adsl lines are not good enough for live HD and tiscali nearly went under so hasn't invested in ADSL2+.

SKY has loads of HD but it is not cheap. My bill has doubled since leaving tiscali and going to sky HD, the charge for HD alone is £10 per month.

You could perhaps do what I used to do and run your tiscali box along side a freesat box. You can get a freesat hd box for about £60 and providing you have a dish available you can get BBC HD and ITV HD without any subscription.

freesat - Home - freesat brilliant TV for everyone

Yep, it isn't a bad stopgap measure.

ITV HD will give you some good dramas, films and football in HD, such as the Brazil vs England game that is about to start.

It certainly isn't to be sniffed at for free HD and if you have tiscali alongside it then for a very small monthly cost you can still have all the decent SD channels like sky1, discovery etc

Don't BT Vision manage HD streaming over a 2MB minimum line speed?

Excellent news. Digital spy users are reporting a HD test of slum dog millionaire on tiscali. Apparently it is 1440 x 1080i and they say the quality is unbelievably good considering the bandwidth they have.

Looks like it isn't being streamed, it is being stored on a partition of the hard drive like sky anytime do.

What would be cool is if there was a menu of HD programmes and films, which if selected would download to your box when its in standby for you to watch the next day. You could select which hours the downloading takes place, with a default of 1am - 6am.

Yes it would be an excellent idea. But can't they give the option to stream for people wiuth high enough bandwidth? Any news on Tiscali TV offering ADSL2+ and 20Meg speeds?

I am keeping my eye on this as I may return to tiscali if it is offering HD without the extra charges like sky.

1440 x 1080 i is the same as BBC HD, Luxe HD and ITV HD so any difference in quality is purely down to bitrate.

Tiscali are going to sell PPV movies in HD from Monday (You need a Tiscali+ box) beginning with the Harry Potter films. At least it a start.

Tiscali launches HDTV with Harry Potter premiere | T3 magazine

My Tiscali + box is using a lot of bandwidth in standby again... Wonder if it's downloading Harry Potter in HD in the background?

Yes it a start I suppose.

When you consider tiscali nearly went into administration and the tv service could have gone, it is great to see it still here with some sort of commitment to HD.

How do those prices compare to sky box office?
