The television of the FUTURE

Hey guys, do not know if this is the right place to post this but here is the deal:

I have registered in this site because I am testing some hypothesis for my thesis at university regarding the acceptance from consumers of possible future services offered by TV operators (Virgin, BT, etc.). After doing some research I found out a few services that look interesting to me - mainly related to TV interactivity and household networking:

1) Each member of the household would have all their preferences stored in the PVR (favourite channels, shows, etc.) which would create their own personalised TV guide rendering "inactive" the rest of the content they are not interested in

2) Viewers building their own library of TV shows and movies becoming as common as creating iTunes music playlists

3) User programming rating and recommendation (for example, I could see the rating of other viewers on a movie which I missed yesterday but I am planning to see the "repetition" tonight)

4) A Smart Space Television, used as a media centre for sharing content amongst the household members - storing content or creating a link with other devices (iPod, MP3 players, cameras, mobile phone, computer, etc.)

5) TV content in 3D (movies, shows, etc.)

Any comments on the 5 "ideas" above would be very much appreciated.

Thanks!!!

Re: The television of the FUTURE

Hi

I note you arent getting much response. I can see where you are coming from but my scenario for the future does not figure in yours. My suggestion - do not be so specific initially . Suggest possibilities you see in general terms only - Invite comment on them. Invite alternative suggestions. Rationalise the input and then put your rationalisation back to this forum as a poll or yes/no vote.

HTH
Good luck

Edit:-

This forum tends to be tech based but parts of the forum below may be better able to comment on your usage concepts.

1. I like this idea - it would save trolling through the dross channels that I never watch but how would the advertisers on low volume channels take it?
2. Is that not just a subset of 1.
3. Another good idea
4. My Samsung does media streaming but I haven't used it and probably never will
5. 3D tv -

The main problem I can see with the above suggestions is it would have to be really easy to do or most users wouldn't bother

Best of luck with your thesis!

Re: The television of the FUTURE

Thanks for your thoughts!

Point number 2 is more related to PVR capacity to store people's favourite videos or shows, so u can simply have them available at your PVR and watch them whenever u want.

Related to 3D TV, I have the feeling it would be more appreciated by kids not so much by adults. What do you think about it?

Cheers!
